Get some things off my chest

Here's a few things I don't understand about my fellow PA hunters.

1-the birders and eco weenies have taken over the DCNR.Hunters are last on the list now with their concerns yet first on the list with state forest useage of recreation. Not to mention number one with monies spent on conservation.Let's put some pressure on these clowns. Not to have a deer behind every tree but simply a huntable herd. With their new deer management plan coming out we'll be left out in the cold.
2-we need to put pressure on them and the PGC to improve clear cutting techniques for all animals.Old growth forests don't do anything any good but make the eco weenies feel warm and fuzzy about protecting some trees.
3-put pressure on the PGC about some of these stupid dd's in farm/woodlot country which can support more deer. And before you mention farmers having crop damage problems trust me if their land is open to hunting the deer are getting reduced unless they have a problem with neighbors posting there land like fort knox.
4-pressure our stupid reps to get an increase of funds for the PGC.That means following their logging goals and not giving into the goofballs trying to keep old growth trees. It also would mean some increases in hunting licenses in one way or another.
5-And if the forestry can manage their own animals of the state then every private land owner should do so.The animals belong to the state not the DCNR unless that's changed.
6-restrain yourselves alittle. If your area is shot out don't continue to hunt doe there.I know some say the PGC wants you to do this but they're not always right and you may know your area better so you be the judge.
Hunting is taking a back seat and I'm getting tired of it.Especially considering we spend more money on conservation then any other group in the US.That gives us a right to have a voice. And that doesn't even include the economic impact we have on the state and the whole country.

I'm tired of fighting ,I'm concentrating on getting out of the state before I die. Maybe I wont make it ,but It is a good cause not to die here in the land of taxes and yuppies and greedy land developers.

I kind of doubt that. When you figure most hunters are only in their woods 2 weeks out of the year, the hikers, campers, and tree huggers are there a lot more. 30 years ago when I first started my job, there where big arguements about getting vacation time for hunting. By the time I left work, with more employees, the lowest in seniority could get 1st week of buck off.

i would have to say that anyone that hunts only 2 weeks a year is not much of a hunter. around here we start hunting in october and hunt into february. hell i hunt more than two weeks in october. my sunday hunts for coyotes which can be all year long add up to around 25 days a year. most hikers, campers and tree hugger only use the woods on the weekends in the summer if the weather is nice. as for 30 years ago. alot of deer = alot of hunters and things were booming in hunting season then. now with no deer = no hunters and everyone from hotels to restaurants are hurting in hunting season. things are dead now. only one making money now is the pgc.

Gotta disagree with you Mike. Most hunters I know spend alot more time then two weeks.
Think of it this way, picture the amount of hunters in the state forest in rifle, bow, bear,or turkey. Now picture the flower sniffers and birdie watchers you see.I hardly ever see any of these people out there but the way the DCNR is giving into them you'd think they have an army on these lands.

I have to disagree with Cardeer. I've been to New England.. Now THAT is the land of taxes, yuppies and greedy land developers. But a lot of the suburbs are starting to become that way, so I sort of see your point.

Cardeer...How many other states have you checked out? PA doesn't seem the worst I've seen.

I have lived in 6 states ,which I hunted in and hunted in 17 total states. Owned property in the south. Cheap compared to up here. I would leave but my elderly parents are still alive. When they pass on I'm out of here.I will sell my place. There place I cant. They have a sealed trust it cant be sold.So I will sell out the contents and around 400,000 antique coins,Nazi and many tons of antiques and let the 2 homes rot .Eventually the county will sheriff it for not paying the property taxes. Then I;m clean from here.I'm loolking at property in the deep hillbilly hills of W. Virginia ,tennessee, and such places. I would love to go back to Texas ,but to hot for the wifes health problems. I want dirt roads and no people except rednecks. I like the property in the deep hills of Western W. Virginia. It says on the sales Note.> No zoning or restriction regs in county.I want to live in peace.Want people to just stay out of my business and bedroom and bathroom. The best time in my life was went I spent 6 months behind my gate on my property in South Texas. Did not see another human face, Took outdoor showers and lived off the land and game. I think with a possible 3/4 million I can get a hunk of hillbilly land.

Sounds like you've got the plan Cardeer!

You want to see the land of taxes, yuppies, land developers, and flower sniffers come to New England, or better yet the wonderful state of Massachusetts, your fricken' head will spin. Worst choice I ever made in my life was moving out here.

Once my kids are raised I hope to do the same as you, just get away from everyone and leave me alone! Montana here I come.
