RE: Get some things off my chest

Maybe I'm not seeing the forest for the trees here, or maybe I am.

It just seems that hunters are always angry at the environmentalists, and they shouldn't be. Environmentalists are the only ones trying to protect wetlands, endangered species, forests, plants and the like.

The DCNR wants to spur the renewal of native species of plants and adequate undergrowth for timber.

Over the short term, it requires a drastic reduction in the deer herd. Over the long term, it will undoubtedly increase the carrying capacity of that land, and acreage that used to hold 10 deer will someday hold 20.

I don't think they can paint an accurate picture of a timeframe, population regrowth, because the information just isn't there. I think DCNR, as well as other groups concerned with conservation are all in this for the right reasons, and we need to understand that.

Silver, the dcnr needs to also adress the other issues affecting regen and plant growth.Canopy and acid rain come to mind. They can kill the very last deer on a tract of state forest but as long as the environmentalists push for old growth no regen will happen.Plant life needs sunlight whether it be white oaks or native wildflowers.

I have lived in 6 states ,which I hunted in and hunted in 17 total states. Owned property in the south. Cheap compared to up here. I would leave but my elderly parents are still alive. When they pass on I'm out of here.I will sell my place. There place I cant. They have a sealed trust it cant be sold.So I will sell out the contents and around 400,000 antique coins,Nazi and many tons of antiques and let the 2 homes rot .Eventually the county will sheriff it for not paying the property taxes. Then I;m clean from here.I'm loolking at property in the deep hillbilly hills of W. Virginia ,tennessee, and such places. I would love to go back to Texas ,but to hot for the wifes health problems. I want dirt roads and no people except rednecks. I like the property in the deep hills of Western W. Virginia. It says on the sales Note.> No zoning or restriction regs in county.I want to live in peace.Want people to just stay out of my business and bedroom and bathroom. The best time in my life was went I spent 6 months behind my gate on my property in South Texas. Did not see another human face, Took outdoor showers and lived off the land and game. I think with a possible 3/4 million I can get a hunk of hillbilly land.
Where in PA do you live? I grew up in Vermont but spent 8 years in PA and I must say that PA is much more rural than any state north of it. I really hope to be financially stable enough to live in Bradford County someday near my father, but unfortunately now I can't afford to live there. Upstate and Central NY is very similar in some parts though I have seen, as well as the NE Kingdom of Vermont and up in Maine, but it's too goddamn cold up there for me after spending 8 years in pa.

CD...Funny thing I asked you that. I own 450 acres give or take in central-west west virginia.

We bought a chunk bordering our land about 3 years ago for $200/acre.

The nearest farm (with no timber or mineral rights) just sold for $1800/acre...and there is NO WAY to get utilities to it without dropping $10K. Some NJ Yuppies bought it, and they don't hunt.

It's no better anywhere else. LOL[:@]

Mr james I live in southern Berks County and philly is almost reached my door steps. Land is going for 50,000 a acre, Gamelands are crowed with hunters and no deer. Last year I was on properety adjoining gamelands 43.I seen 47 hunters walk by ne by noon. Private land owners wont let you hunt unless you pay them or become their lovers. it is really getting bad. Last year it took me over 400 hours in the little section of private woods i hunt to get 2 deer. then the 3rd was taken on a special handicapped hunt on a power plant property normally closed to all hunting.
