RE: NY harvest numbers
bow27 I meant 50% successful recovery rate on archery shot deer. I guess I should've specified. But I also wrote I heard that as a rumor someplace, and where I couldn't remember.

RE: NY harvest numbers
BuckAlley,
Do you mean only 50% of deer shot are recovered? I think thats pitiful(not that I doubt you). I guess that would be a hard stat to prove, and then even harder to figure how many of those deer survived. |
RE: NY harvest numbers
Steve,
I don't think the #'s are going to be there to back you up. Not because you are wrong, but moreso, I doubt that you will be able to get your hands on conclusive evidence to swing your friend. He would need see something that he cannot refute, and that may be a bit tougher to find. Sometimes people don't want to hear the truth anyways. Good Luck. |
RE: NY harvest numbers
I meant 50% successful recovery rate on archery shot deer I personally have around 96% recovery rate on Deer shot with a bow and thats with over 50 bow kills. |

RE: NY harvest numbers
Dang Bow27, that took you alot of typing! Where did you find this archery info?
|
RE: NY harvest numbers
I like bowhunting as much as the next guy, but as a taxidermist I can tell you stuff you wouldnt wanna hear. Like how many times each year I cape out bucks that have healed scars from broadhead pass-throughs...in their necks! Three blade and four blade scars, going in and coming out. For as many necks as Ive skinned out over the years, I still have never found one set of lungs or a heart in one, either. Too bad some more guys dont respect this animal that gives them so much pleasure.

RE: NY harvest numbers
It was a copy and paste from a e-mail from the DEC.

RE: NY harvest numbers
Good find.
It only answers part of the statement. Little can be known about kill/wound ratio with a degree of confidence. And as far as the numbers are concerned, I would hope that this be the case, as archery hunters are more selective due to the nature of the hunt. I have no problem with that. |
