ORIGINAL: PA GOBBLER does anybody think the PGC will change the amount of lic. to WMA's that have low DD ''If we continued anywhere near the [antlerless license] allocation we have now, we could annihilate the deer in 2G,'' Mohr said. ''They're at such low numbers now, the predators are going to keep them from rebounding quickly.'' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I sure hope so, I hunt in 2G |

RE: Pa. Deer #'s down! Duhhhhhhh!!!!
Some herds are at such a low point that dropping the anterless allocations a thousand or so in a wmu will have a zero effect. There might be a token drop in some areas but don't expect that there is any belief by the PGC that the herd is too low. It might take a couple more years until the herd reduction program gets to some of the smug people hunting on high deer density lands. If they get a taste of what it's like to hunt on the no-deer lands, the added voices to the chorus might bring about some change. But I see no future of good hunting in public lands. I think it is over!

Just wait now the pgc says that they are going to start a turkey management plan. So now they want to sell extra turkey tags until all the turkey are gone

Thank God I live on the NY boarder. I have plenty of land in NY to hunt and for the first time I do not plan on even buying a PA license. The deer are getting so few and far between that I do not plan on wasting my time in PA. Good job PA! Keep up the good work.

I just don't know if I agree with that statement. First of all - what predators?? I know that we have the occasional coyote and black bear, but I would have to see some hard, non-biased expert opinions or physical evidence before I could agree that predation is limiting the regrowth of the herd. As of right now, I don't think that I could agree with that statement. It looks to me like Alt stepped out to take the heat out of the hot kitchen, but his mission is largely accomplished. We have beat down the deer density a bit, and the forests are already experiencing some regrowth. At least in the large-timber areas of Warren Co. that I hunted, it was already noticeable. I also don't agree that deer are becoming extinct in PA. Sure, my deer sightings were down a tad, maybe 10%. I would attribute that to the lack of hunter-friendly weather on my outings. I rifled hunted Warren County for the opening 3 days - it rained. I tagged out and passed on a legal buck (tagged a legal one in archery). There weren't exactly deer bouncing everywhere, but there never were. The weather was unseasonably hot, and I got rained on. The Saturdays in archery were also relatively bad. The peak hours on the Solar/Lunar charts occurred in the dark. Those days where the peak times were in the daylight, the weather was bad. My opportunities to hunt ideal conditions were limited, and again, I still saw plenty of deer, plenty of bucks and tagged a nice one. |

quicksilver, I agree with you that there is no problem in the northwest, I have talked with friends that live and hunt on 1B and 2F, give it time when the hunters leave 2G come your way it will change fast. As for Gary Alt leaving, they took a pole and 75% was on his side, I guess he should of stayed and took his glory. Of the 47 yrs. that I have hunted weather has never stopped me from hunting, That is a copout
