hey, thanks for the info on your hunts..i enjoy them. hunting for me is about being afield. i am an ex- bike racer and have always enjoyed pushing myself and enjoying the feeling of the outdoors. hunting 4 me is not about the kill, but the hunt...the wildlife...the USA and it's freedom. that's what i love.

Acorns are where you find them. I haven't been up to Augustine in about 15 years. Don't recall seeing any oaks though. There are alot of oaks in Cedar Swamp. Look for the white oaks...the have a shaggy type bark starting about 15 feet up, rounded leaves and acorns about an inch long. I checked a couple persimmon trees Saturday..they had along way to go to be ready.
Lemond, I read what you said..you said you wish to learn, then you follow-up with an I told you so....your loss!!! About the heart shots....never happen from the comfort of your living room!!!!
Duckmaster...great attitude..you will do well this year..keep at it!!!!

lemond, Based on your advice, I got some steps similar to Lone Wolfs. They're a knock off made by Gorilla (had a gift certificate to BassPro). Tried 'em in the side yard last night...VERY COOL!! Will open up some new areas to hunt! Thanks!

hey whatever it takes. u should look into the stand that lonewolf has. u tie on a strap with a hanging hook and u r in business. i have hunted on public land where people only stand and look
do they really kill alot of deer in cedar swamp...there r alot of stand right on top of one another?? the oaks r n that area??? i wonder if the deer ever come to them during mid-day?? i will have to go there and check out the place. i will hutn during the week.

lemond, Comparitevly, they kill about as many deer at Cedar Swamp as any public land parcel in that area...but, I think there are more places for the deer to hide so there are more deer running around....hence, your odds may be better if you put in some effort and learn the patterns of the deer (and other hunters). There is no easy place to kill a deer..especially public land!
Per public land area size, probably the most deer are killed on the special drawing hunts (Bombay Hook, Prime Hook or White Clay Creek, etc.) or on highly managed parcels like Assowoman WMA maybe Logan Lane. Good luck!
