RE: 3 Solutions for PA gloom and doom deer hunters.
Here is the link to the PGC Annual report that provides the OWDD goals by WMU.
http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/lib/p.../21001-02z.pdf If for some reason it doesn't work,go to the PGC website ,click annual reports and then click on wild life management report, and deer. You can get the goals for each county by going back to 2001. if you can't find what you are looking for let me know. i'll only be to glad to help you find it. |
RE: 3 Solutions for PA gloom and doom deer hunters.
Bull I agree we all need to work together!! Be able to preserve our hunting rights should be first on any hunters list. However, common sense should tell you in order to work together there has to be give and take, compromise. In my opinion being able to hunt deer that are at a density of 5, 12 or 15 dpsm is better than not being able to hunt at all!!
ddear, I live in 5C and hunt both 5C and 5B, most of this land is private property or being developed. When I read the PGC report for the dpsm goals for the areas I hunt I was shocked. But thinking about it, there is no way the deer can be culled to 3 or 5 dpsm in this area. Too many houses and protected land. Just curious, do you know what the doe tags issued vs. doe tags filled % is for 5B and 5C? |

ORIGINAL: bullmoose38 Pa deer hunters. Its funny how there is so much negativity for everything PGC and other groups are trying to accomplish in PA. They are damned if they do or damned if they dont! I have 3 solutions if you dont like Pa hunting. 1------Get a organized group together to do something about it and not the USPDC. Saw that organization at the Sportsman show in Harrisburg. I dont want any part of them! 2------You can hunt another state. 3------Last but not least. NOBODY MAKES YOU HUNT IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT DO IT!!! ![]()
As for hunting in other states most hunters I know were not born with a gold spoon in their mouth, And I am one of them. #3. [:@] [:-] [:@] |

I live in 5b and there is noooo way they can get the dpsm down to 5. In fact that is absurd !!!! I also hunt in 2G where the dpsm is 12 and we hardly see a stinkin thing with 25 guys in camp. I can't imagine having 5 dpsm!!!! And to use the excuse that the land can't support that many deer is a joke. Some of the biggest deer I have ever seen have come from york county. A friend of mine took a doe 2 years ago that dressed out at close to 200 pounds !!!! It's all about money and who has it. Lancaster is one of the most developed counties in the state with tons of private land. There are more houses going up everywhere every day and I bet they want to cut the herd to rediculously low numbers so the developers can keep stuffing their pockets by buying up all the land and slapping in developments. |

RE: 3 Solutions for PA gloom and doom deer hunters.
Here is what happened to the herd in Northampton Co. since 1999.
Buck Anterless OWDD 1999 2 1,471 1,158 64 DPFSM 22 DPSM 2000 2 1,463 2,470 57 DPFSM 19 DPSM 2001 6 1,325 2,406 43 DPFSM 14 DPSM 2002 2 1,273 2,457 29 DPFSM 10 DPSM 2003 --1,060 3,220 The PGC hasn't released the OWDD for 2003 or 2004 , but based on the increased anterless harvest in 2003 , the herd is now probably under 8 DPSM and the still are proposing adding another two weeks to the extended anterless rifle season in 5C. |
