1st time Hunter of Black Bear this year, With bow 1st thou, Doesnt start until Oct , Been reading & etc, But still need to find a Good area West Of Rt 17 to hunt, In NY & I plan On making a Bear skin rub for Wife & eating the meat, I hear its pretty good, We will see If my luck Holds up.....

I hunt in NY, in the Catskills. I actually plan on doing something silmilar to what you are thinking. For bear I would look into the Slide Mountain Wilderness or the Bid Indian Wilderness. They both have plenty of land and good bear habitat. Hunting there isn't easy though. Lots of rugged terrain.
