Potential Pennsylvania record w/ a Bow. (Pics)

This buck was taken with a bow on November 12th in Allegheny County PA, a couple minutes from my house. The official score of this buck is.... Net Score (Typical): 178 2/8"!!! It grossed 185 1/8" with 6 7/8" deductions.

Hasn't made it to the PGC site but here is a link to the current record and this buck scores approx 3" more than the PA record with a bow! Also it's within the Top 5 Typical bucks ever taken by hunters in Pennsylvania.

Some more:

What do ya think about that?!

A great deer, but no Pa. record. The last list I seen from my memory on the PGC and P&y or booner stats bigger were taken in Pa years ago. I think some over 200 score. I need to get on that list. (NOT). Heck I have a 186 shot in 1980 and never thought much about gettin it on a list. Just think that breeds a spirit of envy amongst hunters and causes problems.

Actually..... According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, this buck would score a few (3-3/8) inches over Pennsylvania's "Typical white-tailed deer with bow and arrow" record. RE: http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/cwp/v...a=485&q=151994

OK I was thinking of the NON-typical buck with bow. It was shot in 88 and was 202 .

It looks like there's a pretty nice 9pt laying beside his buck in one of the pictures. They must have had a banner day.

I wonder where he was at in Allegheny County? I did some scouting out near the airport and saw some pretty good deer. I tagged out before I ever made it out there to hunt tho.

Who says PA antler restrictions are silly??

Yea, where's the ear tag? I bet there is more to the story..could this be an Ohio buck?

What state has a greenish tag that wraps around the antler? Certainly not PA.

It's not an OH tag or a WV tag. This years OH temp tags are yellow and there official tags are metal.

the deer in question , where about in allegheny co was it shot , anyone know?

Plus maybe the shinyness of the tag is reflecting grass to give it a greenish tint? possible!

Nope, that's a green tag alright. Nice buck either way though!

I asked about the tag on another forum. It's tape over the tag to hold in place.

RE: Potential Pennsylvania record w/ a Bow. (Pics)

Ok...

1. It is a PA buck.
2. It was shot within the city of Pittsburgh (not sure which district, wide area though), Allegheny county.
3. That is one awsome buck! Very symmetrical, gonna make a good looking mount.

------------

I've actually been in contact with the hunter's wife regarding some land that they are selling. The deer is legit. Cool stuff if you ask me.

Ok, PAhunter21

I'm not bustin' your rocks or anything but you said it was taken a few minutes from your house but you don't know what town or area in Allegheny. Seems odd. Are you brand new to the area?

the tag is in taht deers left ear , tucked in , u can see the twisty tie or whatever is holding it on in the pic , also i can see the different shade of white in your bucks ear... now that it is mentioned tape does seem like a good idea , ive had tags rip out while draggin deer in PA, kinda silly that it has to be in the ear , rack seems fine to me ......

BTBowhunter 01-19-2005 01:33 PM

RE: Potential Pennsylvania record w/ a Bow. (Pics)

The tape makes sense. Frankly, the rule saying you have to tag the ear seems pretty stupid. Best idea I've heard for that is to use a big safety type pin or one like on the license holder instead of cutting a hole big enough to put string or rope through. Gotta admit the last big Pa buck I shot went to the taxidermist with the tag on the rack. Game warden was there when I dropped it off and he didnt say a word about the tag. He definitely saw it cause he looked the rack over for quite awhile. Sometimes common sense prevails.

I have a pic of a buck I shot with bow this year in PA, in November 2004. It's an up close pic of the rack BUT it's too big to posts on here.. Anyone know how I can shrink it down to fit on the post?? It also has the upclose of half the tag.. it's a brownish metalic tag. NOT GREEN.

Let me retract my statement of it being shot a couple minutes from my house.

lnitially I though the deer was shot in Elizabeth TWP (south of the city), which is where I live and where the person that took the deer owns land. After talking with the hunter's wife again and reading an article, and another msg board on the net, it turns out that they were hunting a friend's land that is within the city limits, which livbucks, i'm sure you are aware, stretch pretty far around the actual city.

I moved to Allegheny County within the last year but was born and raised in Beaver county, only a hop and a skip away from the city. Unfortunatly i'm very familiar with all areas surrounding/in the city as well as the unbearable traffic that clogs the highways like a 300lb bacon lover's heart. ;)

I think he (or she) is trying to say that the Alt haters are being quiet when a big PA buck is shown. That it might prove that Alt was right and they don't want to confront that. However - it doesn't prove anything. There have been big bucks before Gary Alt was around. This is not going to turn into an Alt thread so I'm dropping it. Awesome buck and I'd love to hear more about it.

What's this talk of metal tags? Do different counties issue different tags? Up here in Warren county, we have a paper tag (gold or pewter) that we attach to their ear. I've only ever hunted deer in Warren county, so excuse me if it seems a stupid question.

No, Pennsylvania backtags are uniform... Adult liscenses were gold in color this year... you can see on the buck that everybody is questioning, a gold tag underneath the green tape.

Tag must be attached to the ear, not the rack.
