I didn't know that moose shed their skulls!! Just kidding... It almost looks like a bullet hole in the left palm. That is one awesome bull. Any idea on what led to his demise??? Old Age? Coyotes?? What a great find!! Congratulations...

Jim,
Not sure how he died. He was already picked clean when I found his skeleton. The coyotes, eagles, and everything else already mopped him up. The hole in his left palm is actualy a velvet injury. Directly behind that hole is two drop tines on the back side. Quite often they do get holes poked in the palms from fighting though. In fact, it's not often that you find a big one without any holes. They are pretty awnry critters and are always looking for a fight.

Mind me ashing what state are you in? A guy here in NH found a moose drop, he was going to look for the other one this past weekend but we got dumped on with snow and he didn't go. Have you see or heard about the two locked up ones found last year here in NH? A CO brought them to our NWTF banquet and I've got some good pics of them. You can't imagine the force that these animals fight with until you see holes in a rack from the points of another moose[:-]
Congratulations on your find
