anyone get any info yet, other than what you can find on the state's website? five doe tags sound great, but i am more concerned with how many other hunters will be in the area, don't want to have to visit the doc's to get buckshot taken out of my tail from a mainiac that wasn't paying attention.

I talked with a guy who hunts it every year. From what I gather they mostly do deer drives using buck shot because the island is thick as he!! and most shots are under 10yds. Lots of deer, unsure of hunter #. I don't remember the cost of the fairy but It was more than I would've liked to pay. Hotel stay is cheep as it is off season. Not my cup of tea I don't think. Be sure to fill us in as to how you did and what you thought.

I once knew a man from Nantucket

has anyone got anything new to report about hunting down there, like just how crowded it might become? how about horns, are they likely to still be sporting them?

I DONT KNOW HOW MANY HUNTERS THERE MIGHT BE, I GUESS WHO WANTS TO BRAVE THE COLD IN FEB. I ONLY FOUND 11 DIFFRENT PLACES TO STAY AT FROM THE NANTUCKET COMMERCE MAP THEY SENT,THERE IS SOME HARD WOODS BY THE AIRPORT THAT SOULD BE OPEN. AS FOR HORNS I THINK SOME BUCKS WOULD STILL HAVE THEM.YOU CAN GO ON MASSWILDLIFE AND SEE A MAP OPEN TO HUNTING.IIAM LEAVING TO GO TO NANTUCKET FEB,6 FIRST FERRY TO THE ISLAND AND TRYING TO DO SOME SCOUTING.AND TO SEE HOW THE TERRAINS GOING TO BE . OR TRY TO HOOK UP WITH SOME OTHER GUYS STAYING AT THE SAME BED AND BREAKFEST . SEE IF THEY WANT TO WORK OUT DRIVES , THERE ARE DUNES OUT BUY THE BAY WERE THE DEER GO TO.IT SHOULD BE INTRESTING THERES SUPPOSE TO BE 40-50 DEER SQ.MILE

Seeing deer won't be your problem, if you've never been there before then finding a place to stay that is affordable will be a problem, everybody and they're brother will be trying to get in on this hunt, it will be very crowded to say the least.

Most bucks will have dropped they're antlers by then. Also keep in mind the does will be carrying fetuses by then so don't be surprised when you bend over to gut one out and it's got company inside of it.

As with everything else in Mass., I think the timing of the hunt is VERY POORLY managed, they should of held the hunt either in Dec. or an early hunt in the fall, a hunt in february when bucks don't have antlers and when does are carrying unborn was not thought out very well.....I would almost be certain the decision on the timing of the hunt was influenced by all the money on the island.

Not to rain on your parade, becuase I thought about hunting out there also in Feb. until I gave it some serious thought. You guys are in for some serious shock when you go out there and hunt if you've never been there, nothing but scrub oak and briars, you can't get a stand in any tree, and don't bother packing slugs, all buckshot, and there will be a truckload of other guys scouring the same areas you are hunting.........good luck, and wear alot of orange!
