Ok, we've all seen movies where people have vanished off the face of the earth, heck we've seen movies when entire villages or towns have disapeared. Imagine this:
You wake up in the morning and decide to take a walk in the woods. You notice that the woods are unusually quiet. No birds singing, no chimpmunks running though the leaves, no squirrels calling, no woodpeckers pecking, no crows cawing, not an animal to be found ANYWHERE. Just imagine how you would feal if this happened. All the animals of the forest have vanished off the face of the earth. Although this would be a horror story for not only hunters, but nature lovers of all kinds, this seams to be happening where I'm at in Pennsylvania.
Here are the totals that I've seen since squirrel season came in:
Grey Squirrells = 2
Fox Squirrells = 0
Black Squirrells= 0
Red Squirrells= 3
Chipmunks= 1
Rabbits= 0
Pheasants= 0
Grouse = a ton
Porcupines= 1
Raccoons= 0
Coyotes = 4
Deer = 10
Bear= 2
Turkeys= a ton
I remember a time that sitting four 8 hours on a decent day when I was kid during deer season and seen chipmunks and squirrells of all shapes and sized running around like nuts and deer were everywhere. Now the turkeys are running crazy, coyotes are being seen on a regular basis and I see maybe one deer a day and it might be the same one !!!!
If the PGC wants to improve the forests of PA, they need to start allowing hunters to kill more than two turkeys a year. They are the ones who are eating EVERYTHING in the woods, not the deer.
