NJ Bear Hunting Course

I have yet to receive anything from the Fish & Game regarding the bear hunt course... since I did not bear hunt last year... looks like I cannot bear hunt this year.

Only about 350 hunters applied that didn't go through the course last year. They can cover it in 1 or 2 classes.

Once the lawsuits are decided (hopefully in the next day or so) NJ F&W can start mailing out permits and scheduling classes.

Remember, this is all because of Campbell. Call now Governor Codey and tell him Campbell must go!!

Well...it looks like I am one of those 350. Hopefully, I hear (either way) soon. I work full-time and need schedule around in order to take the course.

Keep me posted JBC.

Judges ruled today that Campbell lacks authority to subvert the Council's authorization of a hunt. Hopefully permits and seminar dates will be going out soon.

Judges will hear Thursday if state land will be open for bear hunting.

Thanks. I will be checking my mail box daily for my seminar date.

Update:

Seminar dates will be posted on the NJ F&W website in the next day or two along with a press release. There will be about a half dozen dates starting next week and even a few into December. If you have not sent in your application there will be open enrollment at the seminars. Just walk in, fill out a form, attend the seminar and you will get your permit in the mail. I'll post the dates here when they are official. Locations will likely be Sussex County fairgrounds, Pequest and Rutgers University.

Hunters who have already completed the course last year will be mailed their permit.

Thanks JBC.

Now I just need to be able to hunt bear in a WMA or the Water Gap...and I am set. They better not ban bear hunting on public land.

checked the site ...no updates as of yet. So all you have to do is attend a class and they will have permits there ? as in open enrollment ? What date was the hunt last year ?

RE: NJ Bear Hunting Course

When I sent in my application I chose 3 dates for the seminar.

Correct me if I am wrong... but last year's hunt and this year's hunt was during the 6 day firearm. Basically, if you see a bear while deer hunting... nail 'em (legally of course).

If you already filled out and sent in a permit application you will receive a permit after the seminar. If you sign up at the seminar you will get it in the mail.

Yes, last year's and this year's season falls during 6 day firearm.

Since Campbell tried to throw a wrench in things the dates on the original application for seminars are past, with exception to 11/21 and 12/4. The new dates should be between and include those two dates.

Any news about Campbell banning bear hunting on public land? If hunting on public land is banned... I wonder who it will work regarding the Water Gap. Water Gap = federal land, not NJ.
