My spot up here in northern NJ just went cold afer a lot of action throughout October. Thus far I've only seen one 6-pointer at 40 yards (too far) last Thursday morning. Zilch since then. I've been going every AM before work.

Maybe the bear scared them away?

We had some action in Zone 2 last Sat as I saw 2 small dinkers chasing a doe. She could care less though. Went tonight in Orange Cty, NY and only saw a doe. Going tomorrow back to ZOne 2.

This rut may be a start/stop thing??

We are seeing more deer since the 1st of this month, but nothin like in years past. Saturday my friend Sam got a 3 pointer, I saw 4 deer.....2 bucks, 1 doe with a fawn. All 3 of the bucks didnt even seem to be rutting, they were just browsing, I grunted and they could of cared less, nither 3 of these bucks had swollen necks, nor was the tarsal glades dark in color.

I hunted the last 5 days in Zone 18 and saw very little evidence of "THE RUT" . There are some scrapes around but nothing on a grand scale. We hunted up in Monmouth County (zone 51) on the last day of regular season and me and my father both saw large bucks (one around 160 and another in the 120 class) chasing does. I am seeing plenty of does and small bucks and my father had a small 8 pointer near him 2 days ago but just feeding and not interested in much of any thing else. This might be one of those years that the rut is spread out. Good luck

Rutting hard in Zone 2 yesterday. We saw about 12 different bucks on the lease with 2 good shooters. Seemed that the does could care less but the bucks were chasing them around. I watched 2 small 4pts spar for about 20 minutes during a lull in the action. I ended up passing on a spiker and a 3pt as I was hoping for a racker.

Seems to be turning on now and I hope it lasts for early ML.

For me is zone 21 not much going on so far but saw a beautiful buck 10 pointer with about a 20 inch spread killed by a car. What a shame. But when the cop came she was going to ask if she could take it home because her daughter is a hunter and a taxidermist to boot. he will be awesome on the wall. It was killed is southern ocean county.

But I have seen some bucks but not much in the rutting. But I have not been in the woods as much as I would like to be so far this year. Can't wait till ML on the 29 th.
