Im Back!!!!!
The October Doe onslaught is over and its time to get back to basics. Heading out this afternoon to the leasesd place for Pre-Rut whitetail hunt! The hunt (and the rest of next weeks hunts) almost got cancelled due to a major breakdown with my truck (long story), but my dad came through today with a ride and I was able to swing a loaner SUV for next week.
The weather is looking great for a couple more hunts before Shotgun. I cant wait to spend a couple of 'all dayers' in the woods.
Anyone else heading out? If so rememeber today (11/6) is youth day. Make sure you bring your hunter orange.
Lets get the posts going again!

Hunted from 2:30pm til dark. At 2:45pm I saw 2 deer running across the field on the farm to the west. After that, all was quiet. My dad saw nothing down in the bottom.
The corn I put out 2 weeks ago is completly gone. My dad said he saw a fresh scrape by my old wood stand when he headed in. By Fresh, I mean 0 leaves in it and tracks. The wind was howling today early. When he came out the scrape was 1/2 covered with leaves. Probably missed the deer by an hour.
The signs there, it just didnt happen tonight. I'll be out all day Monday. Keep on them! Shotgun season is only 6 days away.

Hunted the leased place today from Legal light to 1pm. At 6:30am a small buck moved through the bottom. I tried grunting and the 'the can' when he moved out of sight but no dice. The wind kicked up good around 8:30am. Didnt see anything the rest of the time out.
There is more Buck sign around then I have ever seen. There are 2 rubs by my stand that werent there Saturday. 1 rub is 5 feet from the stand tree. I also found a scrape line down the path I walk in that wasnt there Saturday Either. If it wasnt so windy I'd have stayed all day.
Next trip is Wed. That will be an all day trip. Weather looks cold and the wind looks light from good directions for me. The only thing that could screw it up is if the farmer chooses that day to cut his soy bean. I hope he does it tomorrow or holds off for a while longer. There arent that many bean fields left uncut though. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Will report Weds hunt when I get home. Hopefully early with a nice deer!

I hunted Wed. First from Sun up to 11:30am. Saw nothing. The farmer came to harvest the bean so I gave him a couple hours, then moved to a different stand on the same property for the evening hunt. The only problem was the weather man screwed up the wind forecast again and the wind blew SE instead of SW. By 4pm the wind died down, but it was my undoing. 10 of 4 I saw a 4pt and a doe approaching from the opposite farm. They hit the woods and headed NE away from my position. Tried grunting but no dice. At 4:25pm 2 does, one lg the other small came from the same farm but after screwing around the edge of the woods for a bit, headed my way. I was at the ready but at 45yds out the Big doe stopped and just stared my way. She didnt bound off, stomp her feet or anything, but she could tell something wasnt right. So she turned off and walked back the way she came. Thats the way it goes sometimes.
Well, I'm hanging up the bow for a bit to do some shotgun hunting. Friday looking wet and Saturday is looking windy. Weather was nasty last year too for the opening days and nothing was killed in our area. Will see what this year brings. Hell, if nobody does well for gun, that just means more left for me during the later Archery days.
If anyone else heads out with the bow, keep the posts coming. I'll start a shotgun thread this evening if someone doesnt beat me too it.
Take Care, hunt safe!
