Northern Zone is rifle also...only the western half of the state is shotgun only..from the Delaware county line westwards.

This makes no sense to me, considering most of your people live in lower southeastern NY. The catskills and counties around it should be shotgun only, and the rest of the state rifle.

The NY southern zone opening day is always the first Monday after the 15th of November.

And always closes the first Tuesday after the 12th of December.

CatskillHuntr, populations to the west of you are very high and the deer woods are very crowded in the fingerakes and southern tier areas. shotguns are a must.

I don't think any patch of woods in the entire state of NY is as crowded as the Catskills

It's not true that only the western part of the state is Shotgun Only, My old stomping ground, Dutchess County, is about as far East as you can get, and it is Shotgun only.

The strange thing is that Orange County is rifle and there are some areas of Western NY that are very remote yet still shotgun.
