Good luck to all you Northern zone bow hunters. I wish I could start hunting this Friday!

Nothing like the rumble of machinery, the crashing of stone being dumped from a loader, and the smell of cut and burning metal to mask one's presence.

We're probably right next to each other.

I hunt in Ostego County in the town of Morris (4N) and in Deleware County, town of Walton (4W). Trail cameras show a good amount of bucks...Some 8 pointers. I have seen more then two bucks togeather in a single photo. The ratio appears to be near 50/50 bucks to does on the cameras. However, in the field I see far more does to bucks. Twice this year, in the first weeks of this month, I did see a buck and doe bedded down togeather. One in Morris and the other in Walton. I kicked them both up.

Bears are more abundant this year. I have seen 2 road kills on route 17 heading west near exit 114, also several evening sightings ny neighbors.

Behind on my e-mail a bit, and more on my groups.;)

I live in Columbia County, Claverack. Hunt in my back yard a little, but mostly in Dutchess County on 2 private farms and some on another private farm in Greene County. On one of the farms in Dutchess we have a permanent camp set up with a camper and such. Very nice.

There is no definite rule to either of those q's. I know about the 3rd or 4th day of bow season last year I had the big ten pointer I had my eyes on all summer and fall came in and bedded about 75 yards from me.

Had it been shotgun season, he would be on my wall right now. I tried to get him to move by grunting, he had no response and he stayed there for 2 hours before getting up and circling me downwind out of range. It was clear the call did not work, and may have in fact hindered my chances. But, the key to remember is that every case is different.

If I were to make a general rule, it would be to wait until the end of October before using the grunt again. But that is just my rule, and not specifically apply to your hunting area.
