Lefty, How do those fingers look running from the creek out to the cornfield. Are they funnels or just thick brush. Looks like there would be some trails heading out through them so the deer could feed.

bearklr, yes those fingers are runways directly to the corn, we had discussed positioning a hunter at the mouth of the funnel where it meets the hardwoods of each finger. (mainly because there are no climber trees in the actual fingers). I hope some of you guys wont mind being kinda close to one another, if we position people at those fingers you may end up being 80 yards from the other guy at the other finger!! I dont know if any of you guys are interested in this but, anyone have an objection to using the two way radios the day we hunt??

The long fingers that are to the upper left of the cornfield really dont lead to any productive area, the woods in between the creek and the base of the fingers is open and pretty steep. The 2 fingers at the bottom of the cornfield are the ones that are real good, both of those fingers lead to an old creek bed that borders thick bedding area. I have hunted behind those fingers in the old creekbed and seen a lot of deer activity. We will be able to position a few hunters in that area, the rest will be spread out in the woods to the right of the cornfield, there are a lot of fingers and funnels within those woods that are very good spots especially in the rut.

I'm up for the next scout trip (I hope), would really like to see the place in the daylight before the hunt.
No GPS but have a climber and will be bringing it.
I'm ok with it.
I'd perfer it with the number of people we will be haveing there if for no other reason but a safty factor (someone get hurt or lost).
How many of you guys have a GPS unit? And also does everyone have a climber stand they will be bringing?

Lefty,
I won't be able to hunt on the 5th (new job, can't take off Friday), but would really like to be involved in the scouting trips during the weekends.
I hunted the area you are looking at a couple of times during late muzzleloader, but by then all the deer were spooked so I don't have much to contribute to the discussion. I (or should I say my Ford pickup) did bag a good sized doe a few years back on rt. 28 just past the MNRMA parking lot!
Anyway, I will be monitoring the posts for the next scouting date, or you can email me when you plan to be out there next.

Looks in, It's getting very tempting for me to purchase a license Um second thoughts $140.00 man! hmm being that it's only 46 miles west of me. I'll think about this my Va license were only 53.00 and that was Resident, Bow, Muzzle, Big Game and National forest. You would think being a neighbor it would be less that them other states listed...lol
Oh and I have 4 brand new Cobra 1000's with up to 5 mile radius and I can contribute for use. I had purchased them with hopes of the Va Hunters starting a club which is still in the air. If the opportunity comes for a vacant spot keep me in consideration if possible.
