sky high right now, just found a VT moose permit in the mail! now, i have a problem, i know the calls people use for bringing in a bull, but this tag is for a cow or calf. do they respond to calls, and if so, any recommendations?

Congrats VT, I was not so lucky. Ah well next year. My brother got one last year for a either sex and he ending up getting a 538lb 42" 14 point.
What zone? If it is in D1,D2,E1,E2 you will not have to worry to much, I know the areas well and there are alot of moose there. My brother passed on a few nice cows and a 1 horn bull the first few days with his bow before he took his rifle. We call in bulls with the can and string, but also used the funnel. If you find the bulls you will also find the cows.
Well gotta go. Going to Maine with the wife and Kids in the morning. Taking my son striper fishing on Monday.
Congrats!!

Congrats! you must be psyched up. I again failed to get a draw in Maine or New Hampshire. It's now about 15 years and counting. My suggestions is to get a topo map and look for bogs or water near a road or logging road. Moose spend most of their time in the "wallows" that time of year. If you scout a little bit you should have no problem connecting. Good luck and I expect some pics this fall. Is it a September of October hunt in VT?

hey Big G, i did get drawn for e2, hopefully things go well. i think you know a friend/ went hunting with him from e. hardwick, in ill. last year, brian m.? i heard that the hunting is pretty good out in Victory, plus of course in brunswick too. have another friend with relatives in island pond, may have to take him along so we can get them to give us the local info on good places to go. i know of a few wallows between island pond and the n.h. border, but what stinks is having to shoot a moose at least 100 yards off the road. hey, if you do know brian, tell him Pat got a permit, and to call barre, i may have an open spot for a shooter or guide on the permit .
adams, the hunt is in oct., and the area that i was drawn for is in the n.e. corner of the state, supposedly some of the best moose country around. this area is quite similar to maine: bogs, long flat streches, but a nice mix of rolling hills and mountains too. much has been logged recently, not too many people live up that way, not too many roads, either.
