Default Lehigh Valley Great Outdoor Expo

I was just curious to see if any of my fellow Pennsylvanians will be attending the show. It is this weekend...I believe it starts Friday evening and runs through Sunday night. Several guest speakers, including Gary Alt, the usual booths, taxidermy, wildlife displays, art, bows/archery equipment fishing gear/boats, local Buck contest results, etc....

They are moving it to a larger facility this year...I will have to check where exactly...let me know if anyone is interested in directions/further info and I will post it on this thread. Admission is usually pretty cheap...around $10-$12 if I remember correctly from previous years.

I just thought I would let you folks know.

Hey I think I am off. I would love to hop on over and check it out. Will Alt be giving HIS speech on the whole deer thing or is it about other stuff? Please give directions Frank they would be most appreciated. If you don't mind a NJ man tagging along?

Brian

Brian,

I tend to forget how close I am to New Jersey... Ofcourse all of the New Jooooyyyssseeee-ites are welcome...

First off, here is more info.....

- It is going to be double the size of previous years in the new location at Route 309 and Tilghman Street in Allentown..formerly "Builders Square" now "The Expo Center"

- "About 200 booths and floor displays will fill the center of the arena with bigger selections of RVs, SUVs, mountain bikes and boats around the outside.

- Gary Alt will be there to present "Natural History and Pennsylvania Deer Management" on Friday night...two showings, at 6 pm and at 7:30 pm. Everyone that goes to the presentations gets a free 18 minute video "focusing on the biological and social necessities of managing whitetails into the new century.

- Plenty of deer exhibits including the "Zaft Buck" from Canada...possible "typical world record for archery.

- Friday is youth education day...."Birds of Prey" presentation at 12 noon followed by several other informative presentations on various state wildlife later in the day

- casting demos, a live trout pool, paintball and small bore rifle shooting

- on Sunday there will be a Turkey Calling Contest...

- and there will also be a indoor 3D archery competition

Cost to enter the Outdoor Expo is $7 for adults and $2 for kids...under age 5 is free.

Now as for directions.....regardless of which direction you are coming from once you get within a mile or two of the Expo Center you will see signs and folks directing traffic.

From the North:

Take route 309 south from Hazleton. When you get into Allentown you will pass under Route 22/78 which is a major highway intersection. Continue south until you reach the Tilghman Street West exit. Turn left onto Centronia Road and proceed to second stoplight.

From the South...take Route 309 north from Quakertown, etc.... Continue north until you reach the Tilghman Street West exit. Turn left onto Centronia Road and proceed to second stoplight.

From the East:

Take Route 22 West until you hit route 309 and then proceed south on Route 309....

...Continue south until you reach the Tilghman Street West exit. Turn left onto Centronia Road and proceed to second stoplight.

From the West:

Take Route 78 East (from the 78/81 interchange) until you reach the turn off for Route 22 (just west of Allentown). Take route 22 east until you reach the route 309 south turnoff....

...Continue south on 309 until you reach the Tilghman Street West exit. Turn left onto Centronia Road and proceed to second stoplight.

Frank. When does it start on Friday? I work thursday night 7p-7a so I would have to sleep but saturday would be good. Does Alt speak on saturday? If not then I would have to get up early and head out early with some sleep. If he speaks saturday then that would be perfect. When are you heading out there? I realy want to see an Alt presentation on this deer management ideas he has. That is my main focus. thanks

NJ,

Take 287 North till you hit Route 78. Take Route 78 West until you hit the Route 22/Route 78 split. Then take Route 22 through Easton/Bethlehem and finally into Allentown. Then follow the directions I listed above for folks coming from the East.

Show dates are this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday and Saturday it is open from 10 am to 9 pm. Sunday is from 10 am to 5 pm.

Brian,

Alt is only speaking on Friday night. Two showings...6pm and 7:30 pm.

I am not sure which day I will be heading out. I would like to go out on Friday to see Gary but I also might go Saturday because my brother-in-law will be at one of the booths for the Wildlands Conservancy.

For those who want to see Gary Alt, word of advice: GO EARLY. He spoke to a capacity crowd in Bloomsburg, PA, they were turning people away at 6:30 when he didn't start speaking until 7:30!

Good question. I don't usually drive down to that part of Allentown but I can check on my way back from the pro shop tomorrow.
