Coyotepup, if you really saw cougar tracks and if there really are cougars in the area, I would think that would be great. I wouldn't mind seeing them reintroduced into remote areas. Maybe there really are cougars because several people I've talked to say they've seen them. But, my only question is why hasn't one been killed by someone, found dead by natural causes, found a cub, took pictures of, or killed with by automobile? The stories with cougars are similiar to stories about Big Foot. You either it, don't believe it, or don't care. My stance now is, I really don't know and I'm not losing any sleep over it.

how many bears do you hear have been hit by cars in your area (I don't know, just asking)
I know that there are limited numbers of bear around here and never hear of any getting hit by cars
if (i say if) there are cougars there would be a lot less that bears (maybe only 1 or 2), therefore the chances of seeing one, one being hit, or found dead are very slim

doughboy, your point well put. But, each yr I hear of at least 2 bears getting hit by cars with 25 miles of my house in Allegany, NY. Just this past year, I've seen several bears. Like you said, if only 1 cougar exists, and due to their secretive habits, not many people would know about them or see them. The problem is when people present proof of cougars (ie. pic in above posts), they are usually proven false.

kid just got mauled by a cougar in massena ny yesterday, documented, proven, problem was the cougar was in the grandmothers cellar in A CAGE at the time. People get these things for pets, maybe they get loose, maybe they get sick of them and flop them out into the park, whatever; but i am still firmly convinced that WILD cougars are nowhere to be found around NY.
Nice pic of a big cat, but see how urban legends get started?
