Was out tonite and the bucks were chasing the does everywhere. Saw 4 bucks, smallest a 6 point. All chasing hot does. One buck ran by me chasing a doe but couldnt get him to stop. Decent 8 point. It was one of them nights where you just knew you'd see deer. Temp in the upper 40's low wind. The squirrels were barking all night. Had deer in the horse farm in front of me and in the field behind me. Didnt get a shot but opn the other hand none of them had a clue I was there. They'll return. What a great night to be in the woods.

With the poor buck to doe ratios in many areas of New Jersey I have heard that it is practically impossible to rattle in a buck during peak rut. With less does available during post rut I think rattling could work more effectivly. Never thought of that till now. Makes sence right?

LAST WEEK WHILE MUZZLELOADING FOR DEER IN SUSSEX CO, NJ MY FRIEND SAW NUMEROUS DEER, ONE WAS A BUCK WHO WAS CHASING AND GRUNTING SMALL DOES. THE BIG DOE BROKE OFF AND WENT HER OWN WAY, WHICH WAS A MISTAKE SHE WENT RIGHT TO MY FRIEND, HE TOOK HER, THAT WAS HIS 1st DEER WITH THE SMOKEPOLE SHE WEIGHED IN AT 140lbs.

I had a monster buck in my backyard last week chasing does! This guy would score about 140 and was unbelievable. The bad thing is that I cant even think about hunting b/c it is banned in my area. Oh well-just fun to watch.

mike, you must have a hot doe in that area because it's dead right next to you in Elk where I've been hunting. I've hunted all, or some part, of 80 days this year and seen almost no rutting activity. I think it's the worst rut I've seen in 25 years of hunting.
