115lb PA Coyote
Got this from a friend. He said the source was credible.

RE: 115lb PA Coyote
I saw this on another site and they picked it as fake. They compared shadows and stuff.
Looks like a wolf more than a yote to me. |
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
The pix isn't coming up for me. Based on what Wimp is saying, I think I saw this on two other websites. I believe it's laying next to a 7pt and there is snowflakes in the air. If so, it was picked apart on both sites.

RE: 115lb PA Coyote
Look right here on the Hunting.Net board under the small game/trapping forum. The post is called "big coyote; u gotta see pic!!!"
|
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
It does look too big to be a coyote. A coyote half that size would be a whopper.
|
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
This is the first time I have seen it. It definitely is a huge animal and the controversy surrounding it would be something that I would expect.
|
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
looks like a timberwolf-malamute hybrid to me. I'm sure it was someones pet that got loose. People have been breeding them for years around the country. They make great pets if raised properly. Shame that they allowed it to run loose or escape.

RE: 115lb PA Coyote
hummmmm i got one this year that went 42 pounds and it was a big yot.. 115 lbs thats some big yot..
|
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
The state record coyote in pa was taken by sheri batey in mansfield pa it was 60lbs. that record has stood for 10 years now i know from experience the largest one i have taken was 52 pounds we get between 50 or 60 a year the 115 pound coy dog 1/2 wild 1/2 domestic dog some ones male dog found a female coyote in heat. it is not a true coyote

RE: 115lb PA Coyote
If it was from Maine, it would be more believable, since up here the 'yotes have wolf genes in them. Considering this was supposedly a pic taken in PA, I'd say the odds are that there are some domestic dog genes in there somewhere. A full blooded coyote just doesn't weigh that much! A coy/malamute could easily reach that size however, and that's what it appears to be IMO.

RE: 115lb PA Coyote
ok wait a minute now. the coyotes in maine have wolf genes in them. what?? in that case they would be classified as a whole new species. i'll boil that down to misinformation. but if you can PROVE me wrong, i'll eat my words. as far as PA not being able to produce yotes of that size, i wouldn't doubt if there were some out there. there are coyotes EVERYWHERE around here but they are seldom seen..... only heard. i've seen one yote in the woods and he is now dead. i never had him weighed but he was big. i kept him in the freezer for quite awhile in order to save up some cash to get a full body mount but gave up on that idea (too many other things to spend money on) and gave him to a friend to give to a friend to mount.

RE: 115lb PA Coyote
I'm going to back up Split-Hoof on the wolf genes. I've read that, when coyotes ventured into the east, they interbred with Canadian wolves. Of course the coyotes are not 50% wolf. They just have some wolf genes. That's why our coyotes can get to 60lbs and the ones out west are scrawny little things.
|
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
Nope, I can't prove it, and neither can the biologists for that matter. But it is a pretty well accepted theory. Could be interbreeding is still taking place as well, since we have a large coyote pop. but limited wolf pop.
I really doubt a full blooded coyote could reach 115 pounds, but maybe it's remotely possible. The one in the pic really looks to me like it has some wolf or malamute in it though. |
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
yea 115lbs is pretty big. i have a 5 month old cane corso mastiff that's aready 70lbs or so and he's expected to be well over 130...... as he stands right now, he's bigger than any yote i've ever seen.

RE: 115lb PA Coyote
My information is that Eastern Coyotes do have wolf DNA...check out this NH Fish & Game link...Also, my informations is that they do not run 110 lbs.
Yup. http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Wild...ern_coyote.htm |
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
This was only 15 minutes away from my house. I was told by a friend who saw it first hand that it was neutered and in poor shape. The game warden was there and surmised that it was somebodies pet WOLF that went astray or was let go, based on the poor coat and health it was in.

RE: 115lb PA Coyote
BINGO .... told ya so! timberwolf -malamute hybrid...don't ask me how i know...;)
|
RE: 115lb PA Coyote
It's obvious in his snout he isn't a full breed coyote and if someone mistaken it otherwise doesn't know the species....in fact, there is very little "coyote" about that dog other than the color.
