PA Hunters-Favorite Co. to hunt??
Hey guys,
This will be my 14th opening day in the Pa woods. Almost had a big scare that I couldnt get off work this year, but I pulled it off, I havent missed one yet and dont plan on it. I live in SE Pa (Delaware Co.) I do most of my archery hunting in berks/chester county. I have spent all of my rifle season opening days in the poconos(Monroe County). I work in an outdoor store and everyone seems to be heading to either Tioga or Potter county these days. Ironically, this year I have an invite up to Tioga Co for the first three days. I was just wondering where everyones fav. county was to be sitting on that monday after thanksgiving. Good luck on monday.:D |

RE: PA Hunters-Favorite Co. to hunt??
1. McKean County
2. Beaver County I have spent approx. the last 20 years in McKean county (Eldred) for the first few days of buck season, after that my home county of Beaver is my 2nd favorite. Regardless of the opening day results, McKean County will always be my favorite. The family spends much time reminiscinging about past hunts, even though the stories are the same year after year. The camorodity of the entire trip makes for a great deer season, even if we don' t get any deer, which I am happy to say has never happened. |

Sullivan County for the last 22 years. 1981-1983 it was near Dushore and Forksville. 1984 until last year it was on top of Red Rock Mountain across Rt 487 from Ricketts Glen State Park. Waiting for a baby to be born before I can get up this year. This Monday is already out. I' m hoping to hunt the last few days of rifle.

Wow, I feel like a young rookie, after reading some of those. 10 and 20 years in the same county, must be doing something right. This is only my 4th year out, bceuase I just turned 16 wednesday. I hunt BVutler county, right behind my house, but this year may go up the road about 2 mles just over the mercer county line to my grandpa-s property if nothing comes up here first.
Goo luck to everyone!!!!!:D |

Well...This will be my 28th season (ouch)...:D I' ll be hunting some private property in Venango County around Nickleville. Got my first buck in 79 in Warren county and my last buck in Greene county. I like Venango but if I had to pick just one county it would be Greene....
Good luck to you all come Monday. If I get one that' s great...If not it' s no big deal anymore. Just getting together with the guys and rehashing all the stories (lies) from years gone by is really what it' s all about anyway....Have a safe and enjoyable time wherever your hunting camp is...Jim |

RE: PA Hunters-Favorite Co. to hunt??
PAHunter86,
Keep thinking there's nothing to hunt here. That's the way we like it. I have seen some of the biggest bucks in my life come out of this county. Last year my cousin took a non-typ 13 point with three main beams and this year I have already seen a 14 point typical with at least a 24 inch spread and 12" g2's. I hunt all over the state and the farm fed deer we have down here often outweigh those that I have taken upstate. In fact my friend just harvested a doe this year that dressed out at 190. We may not have as many woods to hunt down here but I think the deer are bigger and better. |
RE: PA Hunters-Favorite Co. to hunt??
potter county
|
RE: PA Hunters-Favorite Co. to hunt??
bearklr, just curious, what part of Lancaster are you seeing these deer? I've hunted state game lands #46 about 4 times now and have only seen does. Oh yeah, 46 is up near Lebanon (borders Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area)
