Default PA Bear season

Ok, rifle bear opens tomorrow. Good luck to everyone hunting.

Here's numbers from the early seasons.

First two days have a pretty good harvest so far. Some big ones for sure.

Wishing I had more time to be out. Took kids to the check station today and saw two bears while there. Kids had fun.

Updated numbers after Monday.

Sure wish they'd let us bait or hunt with dogs here....

Why? It isn't like we need dogs to reach harvest goals in PA.

Strictly personal greed & wants. Humping it up & down the side of a mountain through mountain laurels and swamps for low-success opportunity isn't my bag.

Two things I doubt we will ever see in PA, chasing bears or deer with dogs.

I personally think there are already enough folks (cheaters) in pa that use bait to kill bears
I personally like the system we have now, I think its fair and keeps the bears from becoming less of a problem
as taching them to eat at bait in so many places we have house's just seems like asking for problems with trash cans and other thinsg to increase,a s they will associate so many things with bait yr round humans toss in trash

more remote places I can see baiting being a option to get numbers in check, and less problems from doing so!

as for dogs, never been a fan of using them to hunt big game period, but where legal I have NO issue's, but again wouldn;t want that here in PA
I'd worry too much about some trigger happy idiot shooting a dog
or again, maybe chasing a bear into traffic and causing an accident, as just too many small places near humans bears live in PA! IMO
