t.shaffer, I'm from that area. raised in avonmore and live in the Clarksburg area now. if you hunt close to the kiski river you might run into some bears. Armstrong county side of river would be better as its thick and hilly. good luck. by the way, are you from avonmore? I might know you.

I went out for Bear Archery. I shot a 200lb ish Bear on the first day at 4pm. The arrow hit him in the shoulder area. The Bear rolled 2 times and walked away. The arrow was in him up to the flectings. I waited for a hour and got out of my stand and backed out. I went back on Tuesday to track . I found good blood right away, the Bear walked 60 yards and went into the swamp. What a Hell Hole this swamp was. I was taking a rest in the swamp muddy, wet at beat up when I turned and not 10 yards away was a 600 lb Bear walking right to me. When I blurted out OH SHI& the Bear looked up and looked right at me and THANK GOD turned and ran the other way. I never did find the Bear I shot. Its going to be a long time before I get over this one.

That's a bummer HJ. Sometimes you lose them even if the shot seems perfect and you put the time in tracking. Too bad. I wouldn't even know how to begin archery hunting a bear. Had you scouted and found a good trail or area they frequented or just hoped to get lucky and see one or what?
Also, there is a facebook page "PA black bear hunters" that has allot of members and tons of bear pictures. It's worth checking out if anyone is on facebook.
