I just wanted to let everyone know the "Great Ice" free kids fishing derby that was postponed due to heavy snow in February is re-scheduled for next Sunday 3/6/2011 from 11:00am to 2:30 pm. This year’s location is at the Holiday Harbor Motel located at 8369 Us Route 2 North Hero, Vermont 05474 just south of the North Hero and Alburg bridge. The derby is free and open to any kid 14 and younger. Parents, grand parents and friends are encouraged to bring kids out to learn how to fish and enjoy being on the ice. There are 21 trophies, hotdogs, hot chocolate, soft drinks and other goodies to be given out free to the derby participants. This is the 5th year we have sponsored this event and it is always a great time. Derby participants are encouraged to bring their own tackle and the derby committee has a limited amount of hand lines to loan out. If tackle is needed the Holiday Harbor tackle shop is right there with just about anything for fishing at a reasonable price. Holes and minnow bait will be provided free by the derby helpers. There are many different species of fish that live in Macomb Bay just off the Holiday Harbor boat ramp. Tip ups, hand lines and ice fishing poles are the usual way to catch them. No Vermont fishing license is needed for any child 14 and under. So all you parents bring the kids out and have a great day.
