can anybody give me some info on a good set of two way radios that really work.? thanks

Honestly......NO!!! Our group tried several by Midland and they all claim to work for miles on end......on flat ground!!! As soon as you start getting into the woods with hills and valleys, they don't work at all!!! best bet is to use your cell phone and text each other while On vibrate only. That's what we have been doing now and it's the cat's PJ's!!!

Me and my dad picked up a pair of Garmin rino 530 on eBay. They're expensive-would have been $1000 for the pair but got them new on eBay for $400 for the pair. They're a little bulky but with the built in gps and you can pick up everyone else location who has one is great for drives. As for the mileage... The hill we cover is 1400 acres and can usually cover end to end as long as it's a clear day. personally I think teyre great and well worth the money.

Make sure you do not need an FCC operator license to use the radio you buy. Do not trust a store employee to know that information. have him show you in the paperwork for the radio that no license is required. Also the use of marine radios on land is a strict NO NO that the FCC frowns on.

I can ! ..I guide bear hunters and have to be able to hear any one of a dozen hunters over a big area. I gave up on regular walkie talkies and went to the handheld VHF radios. Unbelievable difference. I can hear a call from a bear hunter over 7 miles in the bog woods of Maine.

i agree, uhf is not as good as vhf but i still think they will not work in woods around my home. i think i tried them years ago .

same as you. i returned many because they would not work a MILE in mountains here in pa.yet i read some get 5 miles out of them,trust me i sent a lot back because they dont work.
cell phone tex thing is best way if you have signal for tex .

Sproulman is right... If you don't have a cell tower close enough, the cell phone is useless too. That's our problem at camp in the big Mosh.

Some people think the Midland USA radios dont work good but i picked up a pair for $50 and they work fine for me...they are good for 24 miles on flatland or on water but ive gone 12 miles back into thick woods and they work fine to call back to camp
