RE: New Jersey boy' s
I haven' t heard anyone talk about the pine barren' s, what' s the dilly with that area?,, huge track of land, I have only hunted it 2 times during shot gun season
20 year' s ago, I saw a bunch of deer, but nothing legal to shot back then, I also found the first shed antler, which sterd an intrest in shed' s that I carry even today, I anually pick up 10 to 15 shed' s around my house and hunting area, Back then area' s surounding the barren' s were big sod farm' s I think, and probubly some kind of agriculture close by, if not bordering the park?:D |
RE: New Jersey boy' s
There is some state land very close to Dayton, but I won' t tell ya where its at.:D
Gotta do your homework and find it on your own[>:] |
RE: New Jersey boy' s
ah! the pine barrens now your talking. i hunt off 539 and rt 70 in greenwood forrest. deer are small in size but are getting better every year i think. not enough nutrition in that soil but some of the swamp bucks are as big as they come. during the archery season its very light hunting pressure but during the gun season it gets driven to hell with all those gun clubs. they have stolen a couple of my stands in the past and are nothing but trouble! they mark trails by slashing the sides of trees and invade the land like an army. they are just bad news!! they never talk to you and give looks if you get near them or there african type game drive. its a wonder anything is left in the woods after they get done [:@]

liquidorange, it' s a funny thing you mentoin hunt clubs, my best friend and I were
sitting on the tail gate of his truck eating lunch during shotgun season some 20 years ago, in the barron, very remote area, and here comes a yellow orange school bus loaded with blaze orange deer hunters, had to be 50 in one bus, as the bus rolls by us rocking back and forth, through huge pot holes, then another one, I have never seen such a thing in my life then, and since:D |
RE: New Jersey boy' s
There are some massive public hunting areas in Central and South Jersey. As was mentioned, hunting clubs pound ' em during the gun season but the archery season is cool. The big bucks get wise fast and make it through. Private land is a bitch; costly or just not available. Many municipalities are opening areas to public hunting for population control, i.e. Montgomery and Hopewell townships. Check with NJ Div. of Fish and Game; they are surprisingly helpful. Oh, the Sportsmen' s Center does rock. Whitetail Jamboree is this weekend, 08/09 +10.

RE: New Jersey boy' s
For some Big deer, go to Hunterdon County. Lots to chose from.
|
RE: New Jersey boy' s
Hunterdon has deer sure, but the public land there is miserable after the first 2 weeks of archery. During the gun season public land isn' t even worth hunting. Hunting private land requires big money. The only other decent option is the county park system, but if you aren' t a county resident you don' t have a prayer at getting a permit for a decent park.
