Joe,

Do you need a FID Card? The simple answer is NO. But if you would like to purchase a firearm (long guns) here in NJ or in PA you will need to have a FID Card with a matching address on your DL, this goes for purchasing ammo as well. PA has to follow NJ law when a firearm is sold to a NJ resident.

You will hear many diffent answers to your question, and many aren't up on current law, as it changes often in this state. Also when in Possession of a firearm you MUST have your FID card on you. Once more many will tell you that you DO NOT, but under NJ law you DO. A few years ago my friend got stopped by federal park rangers during NJ's 6 day shotgun buck week and they asked for his FID Card, he has one just didn't have it with him at the time, he was going to get a fine until I came out of the woods and ID myself and they looked the other way.

So for the sake of avoiding any problems, you should get one.
