By looking at his deer we can all come to the conclusion that this WAS and still is a 6 point but on the other hand I can see what you are saying too. It's NOT like you had trail cam pictures of it 2 months ago and all of a sudden he only has one horn with 2 points pertruding. Being realistic this deer is a legal deer. Regardless congrats on the deer.

That is not how law enforcement works. According to the law there is no difference between a broken 2G that is .75" and a brow tine that is only .75".
A WCO may cut you a break and consider it as a mistaken kill rather than an intentional violation, but it would still be a violation.

If you measure as they do with P&Y(center of antler) both points are well over an inch.

Next time he better wait for a bigger one.

He definately started off the season as a legal buck but he's not legal now.Regardless,I think your buddy would get a pass from most WCO's.

I did later have to give him a hard time about the deer.

Told him to stop shooting the close deer and wait for the sure thing next time.

Does not matter if he oncehad 3 legal points, it just matters if he has 3 legal points on one side.

I don't think anyone would assume once had now doesn't still legal.

What if he lost the whole horn and you knew he was a 5x1 before that.

i seen all the horns fall off of a shot 6 point that fell down a rocky hill..is that a legal deer..yes..it had 6(3 on each side)...

that was a legal deer either way..1 inch is 1 inch is 1 inch!!!

Dumb rule this 3 points on at least one side. This buck is MAYBE 2 1/2 years old and could have just as easily been carrying a larger mass 4 point rack naturally without any of them being broken off which would have made him illegal to shoot. Instead a hunter shot this one which is no better other than the hunter having bragging rights that he shot a 6 point "legal' buck.
