lemmond33, Honeysuckle is one of the few green plants left (besides evergreen trees!!!). It grows to about waist high although when attached to a tree, it can go several feet overhead. It is a high protien food deer love. Its non-native to the US (its actually from Japan, hence the name Japanese Honeysuckle!!). It grows almost anywhere. The best patches I have found are secluded near good water sources like stream bottoms. It grows well in pine patches that are about ten to 15 feet high!! If the weather dips cold and/or we get a good snow fall, you will know where the honeysuckle is by following the tracks!! The patch I have been huting covers several acres. The trails are torn up but it is proving tough to hunt. I can hear deer, see an occaisonal back or horns, but getting close is tough. No good tree nearby!! Good luck. Hope it helps!!

lemond33, That sounds like it!! Like I said, you'll know when you find some, the sign will be prolific!!

I have climbers and hangons. The big patch I've hunted lately is a recent clear cut with no trees taller than 3 foot!! There are a couple of hollies that could cover a tripod, but I don't have one yet...YET!!! I'm seeing them in the honeysuckle in the pm, just before dark. However, I'm hunting close to a bedding area in the am and seeing alot more deer. Have had alot of close calls (this morning included) with some real good bucks. Again, no trees so I'm sticking to the ground. Very fun, but tough to pull off!!! My father has been seeing bunches of does during the mid-day. He's hunting a little meadow we planted in clover that butts up to a 15 year old clearcut.

FYI, tonight was terrible!! Way to warm and they never seem to move late in the year during a south wind!!! Hope the bottom falls out soon!! Just a few weeks left!!

I've taken a look at the Lone Wolf system. Very cool concept. Tried to order a similar step system made by Gorilla Treestands from BassPro, but they were dicontinued. That type of step will fill a major void in my
hunting technique.

Bucks..well this year has been, without a doubt, the best I have had in many, many years for seeing big bucks. Lately, I've seen respectable bucks every morning out since early December. Due to work and family, I've been restricted to Saturdays only. October was great and November was phenomenal!! I just seemed choke at crunch time!! Oh well that's hunting!!

As for bows, don't hold it against me, but I shoot only recurves and longbows. I have nothing against compounds, they just don't work for me. I always felt something was broke, out of tune, or about to fail. I figured the worry they caused was hindering my hunting so I switched to a recurve. For the first time, I picked up a longbow last year as a challenge and tagged out by mid-September. This year, I'm back to a recurve the late Paul Schafer made for me. Its a great bow!! A friend of mine is making me a one piece recurve for next year. I can't wait!!

Good Luck Wednesday!!!

Just south of Laurel, De. the Deer are using a wide open field in the evenings, and a small open area with a power line running thru. Both are on private property though.
This morning I saw 7 deer feeding 75 yds from a house next to a few trees in an open field, 100 yds from the highway, and more than 300 yds from the nearest woods. My guess is someone (probably at the house) put some feed out for them. Nothing else that I know of would make them travel so far away from cover like that.
I am looking forward to this weekend. I have a nice spot picked out close to a bedding area, back in the deep woods. Kinda hard to get to without letting everything around you know your there, but i think I found a nice route to allow me in without alerting anything. We will see.
