NY Button Buck. Second deer
Well.. After a few weekends of watching this deer and not many other deer, I decided to take him. Ive been waiting for a bigger deer, but I guess I just wanted to end this weekend on a good note... and I wasnt sure that I was going to be able to get another chance to bowhunt again this year in NY. Well, I got many pictures of him the day before and on the same day I shot him. Everyday he would stay in front of me for about an hour or two. Well on Sunday at 2:10 I decided I have watched him enough. We came 10-12 yards to my left and I let the arrow fly. I was scared, I thought I didnt hit him, even though I thought I actually saw the arrow hit him. He kicked his legs up so I knew that was a good sign. He ran about 20 yards and stood there for about 3 minutes. I was bleating and grunting at him trying to get him to come back. I was so mad at myself.. I kept thinking "Man, how the hell could I miss at 10 fricken yards" It actually looked like he started to eat, but I couldnt see too well because he was behind some thick brush. Then I heard him grunt and fall to the ground. I was so pumped. It ended up being a liver shot.
This is my 2nd deer ever and second with a bow ! Hopefully I will be able to get a big buck or doe this weekend to make it 3!This is him the day before eating a mushroom: ![]() Trying to take a creative picture.. I thought it came out pretty good: ![]() My arrow stuck in the ground after wards: ![]() There he is: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
nice job congrats
|
Just wondering why you decided to shoot a button buck? Prob. not the move most of us would have made. Just curious.
|
For your second buck with a bow, its a buck. A buck is a buck, and even though it was small, you can still say you shot a buck. Nice deer, man. Meat on the table. :party0005:

Thanks guys. Bigbuck95.. Its actually my first buck. Second deer ever. I dont think im gonna consider it as my first official buck though. Ill be able to change that statement this weekend hopefully. :D

Congrats, love the pics and the story. You did a great job. You showed alot of patience holding off on that deer as long as you did. With your attitude, not better but bigger deer are in your future. Congrats again.

Don't bust the kid's chops....He just arrowed his second deer, and did a darn fine job. Hat's off to you kid. You're off to a great start, and only wish we had more like you out there. I'm sure that young buck will be some fine eating! |

You did a fine job and you should be proud of yourself. Listening to your story brought me back in my mind to when I first started bowhunting. It was all I lived for, and I had many good times...and still do. Hats off to you fella! We need more young people with your interest in hunting.
Enjoy that meat you provided. |
Great deer and cool pics. You can be proud of your 2nd deer. Keep the stories coming and enjoy the venison.

I normally would have a problem with someone shooting a Button Buck on one of my properties but this is a younger hunter and I think it is good to get a few kills under his belt. He could be home playing video games
As for an adult, I would say no way. I refuse to allow any adult to return to any of my properties for shooting a Button Buck (QDM) CONGRATS ON THE DEER. I KNOW YOU ARE HAPPY |
I NEVER begrudge a junior hunter any legal deer. Shame on anyone who would.
I'm proud of you young man. Great job! |

I think people who think they are increasing deers #s and antler size by passing on small bucks are just fooling themselves. just hunt, take what you want to hang your tag on and leave the rest , the deer will make more and plenty will live to get big. The fact that others would comment negatively on this young mans thread is shameful:sad: |
Thanks again everybody. I agree with DeerandbearhoG
|
Amen brother. QDM sells magazines and gadgets. Deer are wild animals not cattle or swine. If you want to manage animals buy a ranch. There are alot of big bucks out there and few hunters that make the effort or have the legs to go after them.
Be proud and support our young hunters. They will keep the tradition alive. |

Nothing personal but you would not be allowed to return on my property. The last little 4 pointer you killed, did you eat the atlers? Kill a doe. Here in Maryland we have more does than buck, I don't know the number but would guess 7 to 1. I used to hunt with people that think like you..... there freezers are getting full and I'm starting to have problems finding room on my wall.

|
Great job. There will be many more to follow, but this is the one you will always remember.

nice work kid, its not too tough to tell who the dinks are on here. I still like vealison myself, so tasty, just not much of it! You can do what ever you want within legal means, don't let other people try and tell you otherwise. If it makes you happy go for it.

Great job with the buck. Every man makes their own choices. Keep on driving your own ship. Good luck in the rest of the season.

congrats... way to go kid...
|
I want to add something here.
This kid comes on here proud as hell over the deer he shot. Most of us congradulated him as we should. And then the big QDM bla, bla bla. If you want to preach QDM, start your own post. This kid didn't ask anyone 'how do you feel about shooting a button buck", so put your opinions on your own post. |

I like big bucks, or at least the chance at them, but I stand beside this young man. I have always firmly supported the more liberal standards that young hunters are provided. We must nurture the young hunters as much as the herd, if not more so. Letting our youth hunters just hunt, without setting a bar for them based on our own personal expectations, is a sound investment. I am even more proud of him because he is not bothered in the least by any of the debate. Good for you young man!

A kid gets on here happy as hell with his deer and then theres alot of talk about QDM...
I start a post about QDM, uh, and nothing.. Go figure. LOL |
