It would really be interesting to know how they arrived at the DPSM for PA when the PGC claims they don't know how many deer we have in each WMU.
Unfortunately, it appears the estimates aren't very accurate since the map shows Bucks Co. has 0-15 DPSM when in fact the population is much higher than their estimate.

30-45 for me also

Im guessing the data used is outdated. Pgc annual reports data showed the densities in the highest density wmu in the state was less than 25 overwinter deer per square mile.

that being the case, A post season deer density of less than 25 doesnt equate to preason 45+. Preseason densities of "over 45" would be impossible unless bucks have started having fawns.

Ive seen the same inaccuracies for other states on the qdma map. Pretty clear map sales, not accuracy was the main concern.

Pgc specific data:

Ive seen deer densities discussed on a few different threads on various sections of this board lately, seems to be alot of contradicting info about states including Pa. Here is what Pa game commission says about Pa:

Keep in mind the deer density managed for is the POST SEASON deer density and therefore when speaking of preseason it will be higher... According to pgc data the POSTSEASON density highest in state is under 25 dpsm, but to compare apples to apples we'll stick with the management meaningless preseason data as shown on the qdma map.

Anyway here goes-- According to the 2006 annual report shows the highest deer density in the state as 40 dpsm. preseason Scroll to page 12 Table 8.
http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/lib/pgc/reports/2006_wildlife/21001-05.pdf

That higest wmu was 2A. On the 2008 annual report, there is a chart showing the changes in deer density since 2004.

Scroll down to table 8 page 18. http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/lib/p.../21001-07z.pdf On it, the ow deer density declined by 7% in 2006 and another 9% in 2007 in that wmu. Therefore the density HAS to be lower now than it was in 2006 so the preseason density is lower than the 40 it was in 2006... Therefore the highest preseason density in the state has to be lower than 40 and absolutely must be in the 30's according to that data.

Yet the qdma map shows it at OVER 45!...and a LARGE area. lmao. Wouldnt be bad if it were only off a couple of dpsm, but thats a pretty significant (huge) statistical percentage error.

Ive seen the same for many if not most other areas of the state and other states as well on the qdma map.

wrong

when we did the poo counts in youngwomans creek OF CLINTON COUNTY WMU2G they said 2 years ago it was 40 dpsm.NO WAY CLOSE .last winter we did survey again.this time they said 22 dpsm,NO WAY.

I WOULD SAY 10 IS PUSHING IT IN THAT AREA AND THAT AREA IS SURROUNDED BY PRIVATELAND.our deer feeder counts this winter with cameras is about best you can get.avg was 4 to 6 dpsm in best areas.1 feeder had 11 but was near privateland.
but they swear that 22 dpsm is FACT .i was nice enough not to try to get smarty pants with them but only the city slickers that are 1 day year hunters ever believed that.or the ones that want to be WANNABEE.you have to laugh when you see people trying to go up the ladder.they will kiss butt and act like TEAM MEMBER .

no one pulls wool over old sprouls head...:lolabove:

Their saying my area of 4D is greater than 45 dpsm,,,im calling BS!

I think this deer density map is a joke. Look at this link:
