Default Coyote Encounter

I was driving on a dirt road on Saturday afternoon in a remote part of northern Clinton County and a coyote crossed the road in front of me. He climbed up a bank and sniffed around while we sat there watching him, no more than 20 ft away from us. We rollerd down the windows, whistled and yelled at him, and it was as if we weren't even there. When he approached a clearing, I got out of the car and threw a couple of rocks his way. Still no response. He looked pretty healthy, so why the lack of interest or fear?

BTW, during the weekend we saw 2 bears, one decent buck (at night), and very few other deer. We also had a much too close encounter with a rattler! Also heard a battle Sunday night between 2 Barred Owls and some crows.

Every yote I've ever encountered was bent on putting as much real estate as possible between him and the humans.

Just don't seem natural, I'd have to wonder if he was sick or something......

Perhaps it is possible he was intent on following something and didn't identify you guys as humans. Who knows.
Next time just run him over if you can. Darwin said so.

If honeybunny wouldn't have been in the truck with me, that yote would be sleeping with the fishes.

They are the smartest animals in the woods today. You can hunt them year round and I don't beleive you can decimate the population. They only breed enough times to feed the pack and no more or they move on to form new ones. They never set up twice to hunt them the same way. I love hunting them and deer hunting is almost anticlimatic in comparison. Almost....
