Sorry saxman! This post has been hijacked! It seems that we have someone here that hasnt been able to fill there tag! And its because of all those pesky crossbow hunters have slain all the deer! Lol
|
it started with SHOT A XBOW TODAY. AND THEN YOU STARTED RANTING? I LIVE IN OHIO CROSSBOWS DIDNT DESIMATE OUR DEER POPULATION. IT BROUGHT MORE PEOPLE TO OUR SPORT! IM GLAD TO SEE IT! ALL THE CRYING IN THE WORLD WONT BRING HEAVY DEER POPULATIONS TO PA! YOU NEVER HAD ALOT BEFORE! AND "BIG BUCKS" DONT GO HAND IN HAND WITH PA!
|
Quote; Mike Tonkovich, chief deer biologist for the state of Ohio. Ohio legalized crossbows on a limited basis in 1976 and statewide for all archery seasons in 1982. The crossbow deer kill first exceeded the vertical bow kill in 1989 and has remained higher every year since. Also, data collected by the Ohio Division of Natural Resources has found, that while crossbows "do not" necessarily create many new hunters. But they keep existing hunters in the woods for more years, said Tonkovich.
Tonkovich is correct. How doe's a weapon, recruit a new hunter. Not a seasoned hunter looking to try something different. But a first time hunter. I would think the time a seasoned hunter devotes to introducing a new hunter, produces better results than the weapon itself. |
We have very liberal bag limits.too.

Boilmaker I bought my 8 year old daughter a crossbow this summer because she isnt ready to hunt with her real bow, I had it dialed in after just 5 shots and she was proficient enough to use hunting this year with in a couple days.
(even though we continiue to practice) I am very impressed with their accuracy, once it is sighted in (for adults) they are no different then rifles, slug guns and ML.'s. Just take it off the rack a few days prior to the season shoot a few shots to make sure it is still dialed in and go hunting. With that said I think the crossbow is a great weapon to teach young hunters with and think they should be legal for kids and disabled hunters only. But with that said when I take my daughter out next weekend for the first day of bow season I dont consider it to be taking her BOW HUNTING but hunting with a small caliber firearm. Also in your opinion why dont big bucks and PA. go hand in hand? Pike |
call it what you want but it is bow firearms go bang
|
the crossbow does go bang like a small caliber firearm!! The only negative thing about them. Pike
|
i see no powder in a crossbolt. I shot one and think they stink. I will be out with my old long bow
|
Do you actually use a long bow and not a recurved? if you are using a true long bow ,do you harvest a buck every year?

manyspur we could go back and fourth all night but instead i guess we have different opinions on what a gun is. |
BB i use a old long bow was my grandfathers the first day minimum . I have my first bow a working recurve. my latest a martin compound. I have got a buck every year since 76 not all with a bow thou. |
Are you saying that you're OK with this kind of thread as representation of new crossbow hunters?
|
What I am saying is that I am disgusted with the likes of you trying to negatively catagorize a certain group and then making false assumptions about everybody else and then saying that we are all just like them.
|
Didnt say or mean that at all.
All I said was that the worry that the crossbow would attract some hunters who were only looking for the "easy" way or a shortcut appears to have been a valid one. This thread proves it. |
I sheet you NOT. I was driving into the plan where I live and came to a stop sign at a three way intersection. There are about 6 houses within 150 feet of that intersection. My wife said "Did you see that?" A guy was shooting a x-bow out of his driveway, across the road at the intersection and into a target on the bank of his neighbor's front yard. Then he walked across the road and retrieved his bolt. I sat there just looking in astonishment. He looked at us like.."What? WTH are YOU looking at?".
|
I think I speak for more than a few when I ask if a hunter who is not disabled and wanted to hunt in archery season and till now they had not done so but with the new law, they now will be hunting their first bow season with a crossbow........ What were they waiting for if not the "easy way" ???
|
Crossbows are for the disabled and people to lazy to learn how to hunt with a real bow.
|
Maybe something they were more comfortable with.........You know why did I marry a blonde and you a redhead? It was a preference. Because I hunt w/ a Xbow makes me no less a hunter or sportsman than you. Why do some prefer a stick over an automatic, why do some hunters use an auto over a pump shotgun or a OU over a side by side, because they are lazy? BTB please! Again name calling because it's all you have left. We will be in the woods.

Whats next? Inline muzzle loaders? We should shoot round ball and patch? To be a real man/hunter?

First, I didnt call any names and second, I asked a legitimate question. If you like, I'll rephrase it.... As it pertains to NEW crossbow hunters in PA who have, till now, not attempted to hunt with archery equipment in archery season, what is the sudden attraction to the xbow if not the ease with which one can learn to shoot it effectively and the ease of not having to draw the bow in the presence of game. Your answeer of personal prefernece doesnt wash when talking about those that have never tried conventional archery tackle but now have an interest in hunting that season with a crossbow. Another question BH1...... Do you condone and agree with the kind of mindset and thinking that started this thread??? |
Are you one of those "lazy" bow hunters that use a compound bow? You know the ones with cams that provide "let off" so it makes it easier.more comfortable.more accurate? Get a stick and string! Man up!

You have 3 posts?
|
Lets see some pics of you.with a big game kill and your stick bow? Got any?
|
I happen to have and shoot a recurve, a longbow, a compound and a crossbow. Have shot all of em and taken game with all of em. (Deer with all but the longbow)
The step from recurve/longbow to a compound pales in comparison to the huge freakin leap to the crossbow in terms of learning to shoot it and the ease of using it in the presence of game |
I shoot a compound till this year.(broken arm) just bought a crossbow for this season. Shooting by instinct is harder than fiber optic (multiple pins) do we rant on them next? P.s real men carry crossbows!they are heavier to hump through the bush!

So are you saying that you havent been man enough to do what you just demanded of others? Then you belittle the mans deer when he immediately posts the pic you requested. Lets see the pictures of all your stick and string kills............... |
