Well, I guess what I said earlier bears repeating. This does NOT necessarily apply to all xbow supporters but one can't help but wonder about the sampling that this thread has brought out of the woodwork.

Man ain't that the truth. Bow season as we once knew it is in a world of trouble. Like someone said, the dumbing down of archery hunting is truly a sad affair.

I think that the horse has already gotten out of the barn in terms of dumbing down archery thru improved technology.

Except for the crossbow hunter I ran into last year that said he had surgery and couldn't pull back a compound but proceeded to bend over and c ock and load his 175 pound Horton by hand , that's the ugliest looking contraption I've ever seen in my life.

Agreed Lanse, to a point. The compound aint a recurve which aint a longbow. Thata was actually part of my point.

The big distinction with ALL the vertical bows is that they all still must be drawn in the presence of the game.

It is also indiputable that the time in preparation practice and tuning needed to shoot accurately and consistently is still far and away more difficult with the most high tech compound when compared to a crossbow.

Yep, ugly and loud and not much chance of a second shot if you miss. I've heard plenty of bow hunters talking about missing with the first shot (and sometimes even a second), but then drawing back again and making the kill. Don't hear that many similar stories from C-bow hunters. Once you consider all the variables, it all balances out.

Of course, that little reference to a gun leaves out the fact that the C-bow doesnt involve gunpowder and a 180 grain lead projectile going at 2500 feet per second. But, who's keeping track of minor details like that:s5:

All very true. And with the exception of maybe the second shot, the same things could be said about a gun:wink:

All those little details simply add up to the fact that it aint a gun or a bow. It is a seperate weapon.

Most of those opposing the thing simply wanted it treated that way.

Hmm, we have a longBOW, recurveBOW, compound BOW, yet a crossBOW ain't a bow? :confused0024:

Better tell that to the folks at HNI who have always had the crossbow forum listed in the archery section.:s12:

Folks are welcome to oppose the thing as much as they want, but they are pretty much wasting their time and providing support for the crossbow movement with many of the statements they make in threads like this.
