Default What is this?

I was out taking a ride in the back woods up here and saw a nice sized doe. I grab my camera and took a couple of pics. When I got home I noticed something that is not right with the deer. I do recall one of her ears was not working right for some reason. I am not sure if it is a disease or if this deer was attacked by the head or just what happened to it. Up here we do not know of any diseases that could cause this to our deer. Here is a pic of the does head..

I stand to be corrected, I had saw a warden feuling up and asked him a bout this deer. He stated though rare for deer in Maine to have warts, there is a few recorded cases of it. After discribing what this deer looked liked he stated probally early stages of warts on it. He thanked me for letting him know about this deer, as it is not common for them to have this up here. So I am thinking they most likely will be watching out fo it to see what developes from it. It is surely a strange sight up here to see a deer with this stuff. Thanks for looking at this thread and I think the issue has now been solved..

Phil:
Great picture for sure! are you sure those are'nt ticks on the deer?(face and ear) and could that deer have been trying to hear something on it's left rear while keeping a close eye and right ear on you? Im no authority on animals by any stretch of the imagination but i have seen deer do some weird things with their ears when in a bad situation

I am not any authority on this subject either, gamewarden thinks it maybe an early sign of deer warts. While a biologists is sugesting perhaps horseflies or mooseflies.. I am hoping the biologists is right on this one. I had e-mailed him a pic of it. The whole time I watched it brose and walk along it kept that ear in the same position never moving it at all. Ticks wouldn't be to bad because we only have dog ticks known to be up here at the current time. We do have deer ticks farther south of here. The closet currently known is around 90 miles from here. So far the cold weather we have in the winter has kept them away. I am hoping whatever it is it will clear it self up.

Perhaps that is all it is 2 Lunger, I hope so anyways. There is definately one located right between her eyes and you can see the wings on it. Other than that who knows? The one thing I do know is that ear stayed in the same position for quite a while. When the deer finally walked off it went in the same direction as the ear that stayed the same way. That ear never moved up or down, or in or outwards at all. I certainly hope it doesn't develpoe a bad case of warts that is for sure..

Some of you guys obviously aren't very observant. The right ear is much more narrow than the left ear. The color of the inner ear is different than in the left ear. It could be a genetic defect, the result of an injury or any number of other conditions.
