Bluebird 2
Where on earth has BB been lately? Just realized, I haven't seen him on in a while. Or on other sites he's usually on.

RE: Bluebird 2
Be careful, be VERY careful what you wish for![:@]
|
RE: Bluebird 2
Maybe he's out scouting for the upcoming season. ;)

RE: Bluebird 2
Actually there is no need to post much anymore since most of the PGC defenders have dropped out or have been beaten into submission.
In this area scouting for deer at this time of year is a waste of time since they have an unlimited food supply and their patterns will change by fall. |

RE: Bluebird 2
No such thing as a bad day or a wasted dayin the woods eh Jack?:D.
|
RE: Bluebird 2
Prime example of an uncommitted hunter who must blame the PGC for his failures in the field. |
RE: Bluebird 2
That is just pure nonsense. I've hunted this area for over 50 years and know all I need to know without wasting my time scouting at this time of year. A total waste of time........... |
RE: Bluebird 2
Another guy who beleives in nonsense!

a few more products of the nonsense of learning all you can about the deer year round

RE: Bluebird 2
Sometimes the foolishness of scouting all year and even doing so in multiple states ends up costingextra in butchering and taxidermy costs.
How dumb can some guys get;) ![]() |
RE: Bluebird 2
Gotta love the antler porn. I know what BB is saying about hunting the same areas though for a long time. i don't scout in June either unless I'm prospecting for new properties to hunt. The deer definitely change their patterns many times during summer as ag food sources mature, etc and other than scratching an itch to look for deer I can't say that it has been a productive time to scout for me. having hunted many of the same places for years I have already pinpointed their travel routes, etc esp for rut hunting, repeat scrape corridors and rub lines in funnel areas. I don't mess with bedding areas, too risky,so that doesn't matter that much to me, either. And of course, since I have an ethical disagreement with food plot hunting I'm not doing that either. Not to mention with a wife and four kids I have plenty competing for my time in the summer that I'm just lucky enough to get my time to hunt in the fall. Spending all summer scouting would probably spell the end of my marriage! LOL

"Sometimes the foolishness of scouting all year and even doing so in multiple states"
Some dont have the time, the money and/or the desire to hunt multiple states.... The discussion of PAs hunting and failed deer management have nothing to do with hunting in one of the easiest states in the nation on a "deer farm" where the guy paid more for the deer than his truck down payment. LMFAO. BTW, this is a very "timely" comment coming from you. I didnt have to work today, just walked in the door from scouting new territory. Been out since daybreak. Found several potential stand sites as well as one area of solid briars, where I've begun clearing a thin trail for deer use, and cleaning up an already existing one, with a climbing stand tree about 25 yards from the 2 paths intersection. Cutting the briars with a "swing blade" by hand for a couple hundred yards total combined. Also can shoot to 40 yards behind the tree into bordering crabapple thicket...Spot looks good and no doubt in my mind, come last week of Oct/1st week of nov. something will die there. "Actually there is no need to post much anymore since most of the PGC defenders have dropped out or have been beaten into submission" Good point BT. You made him squall like a banty rooster. I guess that comment hit a little too close to home. Would be kinda nice to collect an SSI check and have time to travel to far off deer farms, though I guess if you want things easy. Very easy. LMAO. |
RE: Bluebird 2
We all have our reasons to be in the woods or not in June. But time in the woods is good time if you ask me, no matter what time of the year it is. You can always learn something . I don't know why it would be a waste of time as some say. Your in the woods in June or not in the woods in June, either way it's not a waste of time!!!

RE: Bluebird 2
Absolutely Jack. There isnt really anywhere else Id rather be.

RE: Bluebird 2
I don't waste my time scouting in the early summer. Everthing changes in the fall. Acorns start falling, apples ripen, corn stalks are full of corn, farmers cut corn, the first hint of the rut begins.
Things are totally different in the fall and deer's patterns change with it. The racks aren't as nice but heck, the venison tastes the same. |
RE: Bluebird 2
I'd rather scout very late summer

I mount my own anyway and I still don't scout in the spring

RE: Bluebird 2
I believe all the early summer scoutiung is over rated
|
RE: Bluebird 2
Better off to spend that time on the archery range or going to some 3D shoots.
|
RE: Bluebird 2
I don't like all the ticks and humid weather.
|
RE: Bluebird 2
During early summer, I have other interests

You would be sitting back waiting all day only to find out that that monster buck had just walked out for some else 2 miles away. That's why I love still hunting in the "dacks. Go find them each day. Many spots up there you could sit a week and never see a deer, let alone a mature buck. Still hunting tests your abilities like no other method, IMHO. |
RE: Bluebird 2
I dont scout deer movement patterns in early summer. I scout terrain and topography on new lands Ive not yet set foot on, the elevation changes, how the ridges run, finding the thickets, possible mast producing trees to check on later, last years rubs, signs of others hunting in the area by finding permanent stands, scarred up trees from climbers, shooting lanes cut etc... and I also do preparations in already known areas that i can do ahead of time like moving fallen large limbs or downed trees etc that might change movement.
I'll search out more exact stand sites etc. based on early scouting and possibly add others later on late summer scouting. I find potential climbing stand trees and also use lockons. I then usually set stands in Late August having some in place for early season and others will not be touched until about Oct 25 or so. I only archery hunt, but always keep a few escape route type spots in mind in case Ive had a bad year, and I have to carry the bowtech the Monday after Thanksgiving. |

RE: Bluebird 2
I do agree with maybe checking stand sites, clearing tree limbs or moving a stand in early summer. I guess, I just consider scouting looking for new stand sites or patterning deer.
|
RE: Bluebird 2
Some guys like to spend time in their areas.
|
RE: Bluebird 2
That's all understandable
|
RE: Bluebird 2
I like to base my stands around food sources
|
RE: Bluebird 2
Whether a tree is dropping acorns or apples determines if I'll put a stand there.
|
RE: Bluebird 2
I never was a trophy hunter. I just like venison.
|
RE: Bluebird 2
A hunter definitely needs to scout to be successful
