I know Bryce Hall quite well. He is the Forester that does the habitat/deer management tour with us here in Elk County.

I am quite sure the quote you are using there is taken out of the context in which it was expressed.

But, yes failed clear-cuts do create a different type of habitat diversity. The problem is that darn few species of wildlife have any use for what is left in a clear-cut that has been over browsed to failure by deer though it does seem to help some of the predators out.

I walked in to check out one of my eagle nests today to see if she was still incubating or if the egg/eggs might have hatched.

Of course I can’t see into the nest to see if it contains eggs or nestlings but judging from her actions I don’t think they have hatched yet.

It was a great day for a hike.

Nowthe maneither said it or he didnt. I dont think it was made up, as you do so often RSB, therefore I think its quite clear. Despite the fact $$$money$$$ trees are no longer growing in that space, its not out of the question that that space isnt benefitting wildlife by growing grasses and forbes among other things, as well as creating edge habitat.

Limed the food plot behind dads place and pulled the card from my trailcam. These darn deer are costing me a fortune in batteries. I'm averaging around 20 pictures a day at a simple fence crossing.Hard to tell any distinguishing characteristics but I have at least two two year old bucks and two buttons frequenting the area along with an undetermined number of healthy looking does. The property is small and I'm more or less putting the plot in for my boys to have a place they can hunt after school in early archery.

BTW guys, Sportsmens Guide has some great prices right now on several of Imperial Whitetail brand's popular seeds. About half the price of getting it from Whitetail Institute.

As RSB suggested, I'd bet that the rest of what Mr Hall wrote would tell the story differently than you portray here. It's my guess that the entire content of Mr Halls work would prove embarrasing to your attemptat using just this little snippet of information to distort and twist his real meaning.

Says it all. What more do you need to know? Are you denying that forbes grasses and shrubs grow in failed cuts/forest openings? Are you denying that deer and other wildlife utilize those as food sources?

So why is it that some folks feel anything but a lush stand of oak seedlings is apparently useless to deer???????? I believe the quote was sufficient......not to mention the clearing would likely make one hell ofa potential strut zone!!!!![8D]

The article was nothing but good news about regeneration and deer management.

I would note that this piece was written by a PGC forester in 1983. He specifically mentioned the NC region and having some of the highest DD in the state and best timber in the world. He also stated that most of the clearcuts had over 70% regeneration, and most of the others were expected to succeeed with few exceptions and those exceptions were still valuable to the deer and other wildlife. So I ask- WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? Obviously deer numbers in the NC were much higher than, so why the much better regeneration? I've said it all along. Pollution and timber practices are as much to blame as the deer. Wait, I know. Thetrees just magically decided to become less tolerant to browsing after 1990. Oh, BTB and RSB...what part did BB useout of context? I must have missed it.
