RE: ANTLER SHEDS

Even in the best areas, and I have access to some very good areas, PA is still a tough place to find sheds. I do look for them and find maybe 1 a year on average. 1.5 sheds tend to hide pretty good and most of our 2.5 antlers already went home with someone;)

I find more in the midwest in much less time as long as I get out there before the locals do.

If you think hunting sheds in your area is tough, try it in an area where six hunters only saw 2 AR legal buck and one non-AR legal buck during the two weeks of the concurrent season and the late ML season.

Maybe you need to change areas. Try a suburban shed hunt. Some guys I know look for sheds near houses and find one in nearly every back yard!

BLAH...BAH...BLAHHHHHH
Does this never end?
Stop yankin' the wheel from the passenger seat!

I found a shed on my last days of flinter hunting but it was a year old at least. Buried in the leaves, bleached and chewed.

i agree 100%. Teach him to identify various trees based solely on their bark and crown structure. show him what species deer prefer and which ones they avoid until they are needed as a last resort. show him the difference in growth at the edge of a woodlot versus the growth under a mature canopy. point out the heavily used rails now may not be the same trails they use in the fall.
There is a lot to learned every time we set foot in the woods with an open mind.

Now that is something I can surely agree with.

I tell people al the time that I could spend my entire life on one small tract of ground and every day see something new that I had never seen before that was just absolutely fascinating.

A wise old Indian told me when I was but a child that everything I would ever need to know about life or of deathI couldlearn by watching the works of nature. The older I get the more I see not only the wisdom, but the truth of those words.

The last two posts remind me of a videoi put togeather about six years ago. Here is a clip from it, listen to the narration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIXsZGSAKeM While out shed antler hunting, itis a great time to teach kids the great beauty in all of nature, not just the hunting part of it.

Went back out to OH. this weekend and ended up finding 5 sheds on saturday including a massive shed with 2 sticker pt.'s on the G-2 but unfortuntately the rodents found it before I did and found 2 more on sunday morning before I had to head home. As you can see the rodents got to one of them before I did aswell. Pike
