Do you know how to copy and paste? Do you know how to type? If so, post the info you think supports your position. that is what i do.

One would think that would be enough for PA to produce monster bucks and a system similar to what many New Yorkers would like to see (myself included). But there is an important point to learn in all of this - it wasn't enough. A problem that many attributed to poor soils in PA (at least that is what I have heard many say in the past).

That fact is as rugged the terrain and big the timber in PA, people still got the bucks. I don't think you can deny that after you see what is below. While it may have seemed that antler restrictions would increase the size of bucks in PA, I don't think anyone expected what they got this year.

And it may be more than just this year. It is easy to hear people say that antler restrictions are making a difference in PA but it is another thing to actually do your research and find out. What PA is proving is that growing big bucks is not contingent on one factor - it relies on many factors. Most importantly, protection for bucks so they can grow to a larger age. Antler restrictions were just the ice cream on the cake of a harvest system that would appear to be good with just the old school regulations.

I will tell you something else. No one in PA is complaining about deer hunting in PA. You will be hard pressed to find any complaints on the forum. A few about abundant deer populations but that is about it.

Brace yourself folks. Make sure you are sitting down. There are some very fine bucks in here and a couple of MONSTERS below and these are just the ones I linked to. There are plenty more that I did not link to and, as busy as his Website is, there has to be many more that I didn't even see. Antler restrictions in Pennsylvania appear to be working just fine.

That is simply hilarious when you consider the fact that the PGC is being sued for mismanaging the the deer in PA?

Without a doubt there are a lot of nice buck being harvested in PA just as there has been every year for the last 80 years. But the links you provided prove absolutely nothing so try a little harder next time.

At present, researchers' alarm about these trends are based on theories that are hard to prove. To make scientific claims about the effects of hunting on the evolution of a species, researchers like Melnick would need thorough data from animal populations that lived at least several decades ago, which rarely exist. Evolution, it turns out, is a difficult beast to study in real time because it is the product of so many factors—changes in climate, habitat and food supply, as well as gene frequencies—and because it occurs so slowly. Researchers began tracking sheep on Ram Mountain in the early 1970s, corralling the entire population every year to make measurements and trace genealogies. "You cannot really just go out and take data and look for a trend," says Festa-Bianchet. "Even if you find a trend it can be due to environmental changes, to changes in density. You're really trying to tease out the genetic part of the change."

This seems to be about sheep. I don't quite understand where qdm is affecting the vitality of the species.

The time scale is one reason that most wildlife departments managing hunting harvests simply count the heads each year and decide how many to let hunters bag without thinking about genes. The most popular method of regulating hunting—restricting legal game to males with a minimum antler size—results in populations overrun with females and inferior males, which is ultimately no service to hunters. "The hunters wish for animals with large antlers and large horns, and yet their actions are making that harder to achieve," says Richard Harris, a conservation biologist in Montana. As a hunter, Harris knows that the outcome of this trend will satisfy no one, the Teddy Roosevelts of the next generation least of all.

What I am reading here is they are knocking the traditional mentality of shooting males only and leaving the does alone. QDM and antler restrictions have the opposite effect, thereby letting ENOUGH bucks live long enough to reach maturity and actually fight for breeding rights, thereby promoting the survival of the fittest and the dominant strongest bucks doing the breeding. I don't see rubs and scrapes like I used to around here. That tells me there is a skewed buck:doe ratio. I would embrace antler restrictions, as many hunters don't have the species needs in mind, and are just concerned with killing a deer.

Are you saying that after 7 years of HR the B/D ratio is still skewed in your area? could it be that the lack of scarpes and rubs is jsut due to the lack of buck?
