And depression sets in.........
#1
Now I know what it feels like to have a nice buck in front, but for one reason or another, you just can't get it. On Saturday morning, I set up in my son's area, rather than go to my ladder stand, cause I had seen more rubs up his way. I got there early, 5:15am, set up a pop-up tent, chair, etc, mainly cause I've never used a climber before, and in the dark was no time to learn. Had everything set, arrow knocked, windows open, ready to see something, but it was still dark. Couldn't take readings with the range finder cause of the darkness. At 6:30, it was still pretty dark, when I could make out a body about 60 yardsaway, when he lifted his head, all you could see was the rack. Had to be at least an eight, if not more, majestic, forward angled white horns, a really big deer. He was making his way up the hill, then angled closer to about 30 yards. Pulled back on him, but couldn't find him in the damn sight, the peep looked like a blur cause of the darkness, and I couldn't find the pin. It walked off, and could hear it behind me, and headed down into the ravine.
On Sunday, headed in early again, and at 8:00, a 4 pointer walked right up from behind me. Squirrels and chipmunks were making a hell of a racket, so I didn't expect any to my back left. I said what the hell, check it, pulled the flap back a little to look out, and there he is looking at me. He moved around to get a better angle to look at me, I backed out, got the bow, looked again, could have pulled back, but I was hoping maybe the other buck was around. He took off, then came back, had a decent shot at him, but he kept looking back down the ravine. He walked out the flat and disappeared. Nothing came up, but what the heck.
Depression sets in when you see that beautiful full rack buck, and can't get a shot. If their going into full rut this week, and they should, some Tink's will hopefully get em moving and see them during the whole day and not just in the early a.m. hours. Good luck to all.
