RE: Pa. man attacked by Mountain lion Oct.10,08
It seems to me that the trend is that there's no credible evidence of a wild population in Pa.This story is so outrageous,I couldn't imagine anyone with three working braincells believeing it.Glad the USP has it covered though.

SS - I'm not not sure we are going to see any trends of cougars visiting our suburbs anytime soon. I could be wrong but, they really don't have an interest in being around people, cars & trucks, etc.
Your painting a very mean picture of this creature... the same kind that makes people scared of sharks and that we should kill them all as well. Perhaps I'm reading into you r message too much. I agree with you on the deer front. I have a hard enough time finding deer in northern PA let alone another predator talking them. Would not want this happening. Good luck to the hunter finding one of these guys. |

I have a friend that lives in Philipsburg and works in State College. Got a picture of a big cat on his cell while traveling through Black Moshannon on his way to work last spring. Can I say for sure that it is a mountain lion, no but it is one big cat that I would say goes about 70-80 lbs. Oh and it wasn't black. I have personally seen a coyote twice in the last three years in the area around Black Bear.

i called a person in sportsmans club from the area and told me he heard there was BLOOD all over place.
he also said the amish guy was all cut up from some kind of animal attack. he also said that dogs could not find any sign or scent of cougar. he said the blood from what he heard is at the state police lab now. BLOOD should tell what it is. i hope that the USP took sample of blood also and had it tested at a private lab. anymore, i dont trust any gov. group . the part about cougar jumping on his back, just does not sit well with me. if it was me, i would still be holding my gun or would have reached for gun to hit that cat or shoot. reaching in sprouls pocket for knife would be last thing i would do. that part seems strange to me but i guess each of us act differently. ah heck, i would most likely have choked that cougar,i think i have a little TARZAN in me:D |

Blood analysis should prove what it was...either all the blood is from the gentleman, or some of it was from some kind of wild animal.

Wow! This has to be the craziest tall tale I've ever heard. Since when did Mt. Loins roam in groups of three? From what I gather they are pretty solitary animals. Sorry guys, I'm not buying this.
With that being said, we used to say the same thing about people who sighted these animals in IL. Guess what? They are now here. IL. has produced 3 dead cats in 8 yrs. All of them were verified as being wild animals and not captive cougars. I'm 100% positive I will see a breeding population of cougars in IL in my lifetime. |
