Hey guys, NY licenses go on sale August 18th. I'm curious to see how everybody does withdoe permits. I've been praticing for a few weeks now and shooting real well. Anybody else getting ready for the new season?

guys.. question on the Doe Tags. does it really matter if you apply now or in 3 weeks? like.. is it first come first serve that u will have a better chance at getting a doe tag? or does it not matter.?
thanx

It's completely random. It doesn't matter when you apply, you have no better chance of drawing a tag by doing it early.

The only exception is if there are left over tags for certain WMUs. It should say in the regs what date they begin selling the "leftovers". This is first come first serve.

As a nonresident, I do not believe I can get a doe permit where I hunt.
I am ready... Will be hunting Hillsdale area early season. Will be out in Auburn area for last week of bow...

Troutman10 08-18-2008 08:21 PM

RE: NYer's license

I'm quite sure that nonresidents have a chance to obtain doe permits. You just need to look at the chart in the NYS hunting pamphlet. It shows the chances of obtaining permits for both residents and nonresidents in every WMU. Good luck.

New York has two main hunting zones. The Northern Zone and the Southern Zone. The archery season for the Northern Zone begins before this years tags become effective. You can only use last years unused tags during the early archery seasonfrom 9/27 - 9/30in the Northern Zone. As of 10/1/08 you need to use your new tags.

Note that this is only for the first 3 days of early archery season in the northern zone. Also, you can use any unused tag from last year, except for a doe tag.

Bought my license the simplest way which is over the phone. Got my first doe permit in my area 4P since the 2004 season! The area didn't issue any doe permits in 05 & 06 and last year preference points were required and I didn't draw.

RE: NYer's license

www.dec.ny.gov is the web site.I have two 06 -07 tags so i can bow hunt the last 4 days in sept 08.I computers were slow when i bought mine.If this is your first time hunting in NY i'm not sure if you can buy on line.

RE: NYer's license

I just bought mine online and got 1 permit. 9w. Was very simple. If you do not have a previouslicence here in NY then you cannot buy online. If your a non resident and have applied before using "d.e.c.a.l.s." then by all means you can go on line and get yours.

RE: NYer's license

With your bow licence, you get an either sex tag.
If you get the bow/mz licence, you get 1 either sex and 1 antlerless only to be used only in early bow or late bow/mz.
These tags and your regular season buck tags are the only ones you can use in the early NZ thru 9/30.

DMP (doe) tags are applied for prior to opening are are only good for the WMU they are issued for.
Depending on the individual DMU population, number of tags (2 max) and restrictions on who is eligible vary from unit to unit.

The chance's for getting DMP's for 3M were high for both 1st and 2nd DMP. My Wife A friend, his wife and I all went upto Gander Mtn on the 19th ( insider news said the DEC systems were down most of the day on the 18th) Anyway we all went in and all four of us got BOTH dmp's for 3M. Thats 8 DMP's!!! in a row!!!

EDIT: NYS is also giving out more dmp's this year not sure on the percent but its about 530,000 Out of about 850,000 hunters in NY

I got both of my doe tags, so now it's up to me! I got 1 for 9H and 1 for 9A. Went to camp yesterday and planned to get my stands ready. The only problem was that my 4 other hunting buddies were at camp and we starting talking and laughing instead of gettting work done. Hmmm imagine that! man...I am ready!

Me: 7A and 7F
My fiance got 7F and turned down for 7F for her 2nd.
My dad got 7M and turned down for 7F for his 2nd.
My Grandfather for 7F and turned down for 6K for his 2nd. He goofed on the order he should have asked.
My grandmother got turned down for 6K but got 7F for her 2nd. She now has 2 preference points for 6K.
My aunt got 7A (landowner) and 7F.

So basically what your telling me is your whole family hunts! That's cool. Asa kid I used to live in a little towncalled Clay in the '70's. Where you located?

RE: NYer's license

Spike...isn't that cool. The camp I go to has 2 uncles, a father, plus 2 brothers thatget as many permits as they can. If needed, theyall share the permits, which I think isreal cool. We had 1 guy get 2-7 point bucks with the bow and a 6 during shotgun last year. Since the family is there, theyall cover each other and have a great time during the season. No harm done because they all get meat and everybody is more than willing to give up their tag for a family member.

Yeah the women folk go out now and then but it's nice that they can sign over doe tags. Wish they could do that with buck tags. maybe some year.

You do realize that it would be illegal for someone to shoot 3 bucks in one season? Doe permits are transferable, but not buck tags. I've hunted long enough to know what people do during deer season, and can't say that I haven't bent a rule a time or two. I just don't know if I would be as proud of it as you seem to be and want to tell the whole world about it.

RE: NYer's license

actually it is legal to kill 3 bucks in one season use last years bow tag in the first 4 days then use this years bow/ml tag then use your reg tag add em up that makes three
