The only other real, but temporary solution to the bear problem is relocation of some bears to the Pine Barrens. State biologists have acknowledged that it would work. In addition, there is much more bear habitat in the Pines than there is in northern and northwest NJ. However, noone wants to flick the bill and people residing near the pine barrens supposedly are not in favor for it.
Personally, I am not opposed to having a bear hunt, but would much rather see the bears re-introduced into the Pine Barrens first.

Hey put them in the pines. I would love to see them there too. THat would just be so cool. Be hunting deer and a bear walks by that would make my day. I would love it and there are plenty of land for them to roam too. So bring them down I don' t mind

Bear hunting in New Jersey, How Kool would that be. The Natives did it away before the Europens got here, and until White man killed them all. BUt I went to the Govsmail and Said VOTE YES TO BEAR HUNTING. The best way to control the bears and also bring more money it to the State. We all need to do our part in getting this Bear hunt going...

I just got this from a email news letter.
New Jersey Bear Season Given Preliminary OK
The New Jersey Fish and Game Council' s proposal to amend the game code, allowing regulated hunting of black bears in the state for the first time since 1970, was preliminarily approved on a 10-1 vote last week. The hunting season would help control the bear population through a one-week firearms season in December.
No final action will be taken on the proposal until after a public comment period, which includes another open hearing. No date has been set.

McGreevey has no veto power on this. The only thing he can do is write a letter to the council to reconsider, like Whitman did. There is no way he would make that mistake, but we still need to call and let him know we support it.
