What changes should be made to the program to close the loop holes?

a realistic minimum age of 10, the purchase of a jr. mentored hunting license and stop the saleof those licenses the Friday before the start of archery season in October, mandatory hunter ed class for the jr. hunter . Let’s not sacrifice safety and common sense

Those changes would do nothing to alleviate the abuses of the program by unethical adult hunters.

if anyone thinks a 6 year old kid is going to sit still while a turkey is called in or a deer,i got used car to sell you.

then use WEE-O-8 for deeror 12 ga with 3 inch shells to shoot turkey, must think we all are stupid.

lets talk how to REDUCE the violaters from this.

first, i suggest that 3 point rule should be for ALL OF US.

this would make the dads and friends to LOOK at deer they are shooting.

right now. if kid is along, its brown its down.

is this happening,YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT IS...........

no way to enforce this.only way is to make it 3 points to side, then they have to look before they shoot.

now for turkeys,i cant see how any of us are going to stop this unless we see them WITHOUT a kid with them.

ihad reports of kids SITTING in trucks in deer season while dads were hunting.all with RADIOS hooked up.

radios are these hunters secret to making it work.

how are any of us going to see if kid did shoot the turkey if he was along with dad.

i feel that dad should buy a license for kid.

hope you all heard of amish with 4 kids behind the 1 adult walking through fields hunting deer.
you think those little kids are shooting those 4 deer and then the adult shooting his and gets 4 free deer with no license..

what a joke that is...

someone mentioned the ethical hunters, i am going to be blunt, THERE ARE NOT MANY ETHICAL HUNTERS from what i see,its meat and getting those freezers full..

for these programs to work, you must have honest, ethical hunters.

folks, thats not world we are in and without major enforcement by the PGC ,its not going to work.

i have not seen a WCO in woods checking hunters here in clinton county for over 1 year, not 1 WCO.

you dont think word is out, it is.no one is watching or checking.

so, i have no answer, only turkeys may go way of deer in wmu2g,maybe thats what they want anyhow.[:@]

Here is my take on the mentoring program. Have the kids go through a one day safety course. In that course they will have the weapon (s) that they will be using and fire it on a range. Leave it up to the instructors / game commission officers to decide if that child can safely and effectively use that weapon. If so, they get a cetification card stating what weapon they can use. When in the field, if stopped by the game commission, the adult or child must be able to produce the card and show proof that it is the weapon they are using. Failure to do so will result in a suspension of the adults hunting previlidges for so many years as well as a giving up the weapon that is being carried at the time. Example: Father and 9 year old son are hunting and son is permitted to use a .30-30 and a .410. GCO stops them and he has a .410 he is good to go. Same situation only a .270 is being carried, that weapon gets taken and father loses hunting privilieges for the next 5 years and a lifetime watch that if anything illegal happens again, he loses privilieges of hunting for ever. As far as the anterless allocations, let them put out what ever number they want, I buy a total of 4 tags between my son and I and will only fill 1 if no buck was taken. Plain and simple, buy the tags up, but don't use them!!

If 75% of the hunters refused to purchase a doe tag I think you might actually get someones attention. For sure if no body bought one that would make them kick back and listen to the customer. Everyone do their part this year and hit 'em where it hurts, their bank account. Don't buy a doe tag!! Think about it, If no one bought a doe tag that would re-plentish the woods with deer and thats what we all want to see anyhow and it would also hurt the game commisions bank account.
Yea, that will work, then they will just cut out the stuff that is extra.

You need to look at the hunter as their customer
Huh? I thought we weren't supposed to buy from them? They have treated us like we were the customer. We wanted better bucks, so they set out a plan to do so. Now we want to see lots of deer. You can't have both. Not in PA. As for me, I will go with bigger bucks and healthier deer.

i read a comment about someone that saw the amish with 3 kids walking behind dad in fields enjoying the MENTOURED YOUTH program.

you think those little 5 year old kids are shooting those doe.

like here,i saw over 15 big gobblers shot by kids 5 years old first weekend using 12 ga. shotgun.i have yet to get close to BIG gobbler this year.i guess i need to see those kids to find out how.

i know some of these dads and they are biggest violaters of hunting rules.

what a joke pa. is on hunting.

Sorry you feel this way....I am glad that you aren't a member of my hunting cabin. We haven't set the world on fire in the last few years, but hunting for us isnt' about everyone getting a deer. I guess you won't be out this year?
