Doug,

We have great habitat. Just no deer. At least I didn't see a track in a clover plot or corn field at 48 hours after a snow on 20,000 acres. In addition to many many acres of grass. All are old food plots on game lands that no longer are needed. Why spend the money. Today you can go to that cornfield and you can walk the rows and it would be hard to find a stalk without a corncobb on it. This in an area where deer would have to walk a mile or two to get to cultivated farm lands. 8 years ago every night you would see 10-20 deer in that field. Now none. Stay the course PGC. LOLOLOLOL

Looking for deer tracks in cultivated fields during the winter isn't a valid way to come up with deer numbers.Deer need browse during the winter.

I didn't look in the cultivated fields. My point was that the Corn and Clover fields are an island surrounded by forest and clearcuts miles away from any other significant winter food source.

What are you talking about.Your last post was a complaint that you aren'tseeing deer tracks in agricultural fields.Clearcuts should be a significant food source for deer in the winter.I'd check there for tracks.

I have checked there.

I was just trying to describe how a perfect food source in the middle of wilderness and clearcuts has no activity. I walked the edges of the clearcuts and had 0, none, zip track sightings.

Not once did I say anything about the agricultural fields. They are miles away from where I am at. The corn and clover fields are food plots in the middle of the gamelands.

That's the thing.Grass and clover are not perfect food sources in the winter.Go deeper into the clearcuts and I'll almost guarantee you'll find sign. Not seeing tracks in 2 day old snow on the edge of a field in the wintertime does not mean there's no deer.

No,you gave me directions to two clearcuts that are located in some of the worst habitat in the state but are now regenerating because there's now less deer.
