Hunters took 109,200 antlered deer in the 2007-08 seasons

That's the lowest buck harvest since the 1960's, reckon the herd is stabilized now or will they make it the 1950's ????

The deer population in north-central PA is pathetic.ThewoodsI hunted 10 years ago are now filling in with beech saplings. Some places you can't see 10 feet in front of you. No deer to browse. And by the way, we are not "edge hunters". I seldom shot deer within a mile of the road. And I haven't shot a doe since I was 15 years old. A very long time ago.

I believe the PAdeer management plan is a cruel joke on us.

I was in PA all this weekend. Shed hunting...put an average of six hours a day four four days in the woods walking. Saw six deer. six years ago I would have seen six deer and hour. not now.... it is bad...

Downsizing the hunting population in PA allows the PGC to move toward selling land to accomodate fewer hunters. The ultimate end of our sport in PA.

Outsider, beech is not a preferred browse species. In fact,if the deer are browsing it,it's an indicater that the habitat is poor.

Will,it would be against the law for the PGC to sell off the gamelands as they were purchased in part with P-R funds.

I'm not seeing the lack of deer many of you are,I think there are two reasons for that. I live in Crawford county and we have fantastic deer habitat, and the second reason is I don't know but a very few that shoot doe,the ones that do are young, and some are just meat hunting and hold little value in horns.
Most here have little or no faith in the PGC's deer plan, yellow posters line the roads and lands once open to all are no closed to all but family & close friends. Its not a pretty picture.
Where the future leads I have no Ideas but staying the course is not in my mind a viable option.

I know the law regarding the land.

I run a business in PA that employs about 200 workers. If I managed this business the way the PGC is managing PA I would have 100 workers and would be wondering if 5 years from now I would have 50 workers. I wouldn't need a bigger factory and if that happened I would have to appeal to the owners to allow me to sell off the factory to save the company.

Bad management cannot be rewarded with legalities that will run it out of business.

If you know the law,why did you state that they would sell off the gamelands?

The PGC in charged with managing the habitat on 1.2 million acres of gamelands and managing 450+ species of game. They aren't charged with providing the maximum number of deer to as many hunters that will buy lisences.Unfortunately we had way too many deer for way too long and those huge deer numbers destroyed alot of habitat. That was the biggest mismanagement the PGC can ever be accused of and it was because they were trying to please their so called customers.

They sure can't be accused of that one any more. ;)
