RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Hmmmmmm very interesting story there Sproulman. I live in Centre County, probably only 1/2hr from this location where the supposed sighting occured. I have a few questions about the story. First why was it not covered in the Centre Daily Times, the newspaper in the area where this took place and secondly from what I see in the story the Game Commission was never contacted to confirm that a report was made to them. Why was the PGC not questioned in the story about the sighting? Hmmmmmmm Sounds very fishy to me.

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
cant help, hardwoods, know as much as article i read in paper.
she said she reported it on tuesday to the us wildlife and local PGC at antes fork,pa. this person also said she knows what a cougar looks like. she said it was at the CENTRE COUNTY sign eastbound on i-80.. she lives in MONTOURSVILE,PA,so i assume the local paper there got scoop first. so, thats all i have, i just read it myself in paper today . i know cougar network is involved in it,so, i should know something soon. i am only putting on here info for us when i get it. |

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
latest i can find out the COUGAR reported by this pen-dot employeeMAY not be cougar.
dont know anything other than just talk right now, will update if i get real info on what it was. |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
latest info.
WCO from clearfield drove i-80 in both directions and found NO COUGAR. i dont know how long after her seeing it that this was done, same day or next day, i dont know. if only people would carry camera and take a picture, that would have been easy one to get. hard for me to believe that a pen-dot employee out there on that highway 5 days a week would not know what she saw laying along road. if it was there, someone else should have seen it also. maybe someone else will have info and maybe not. here is CONFIRMED cougar. www.kansas.com/news/state/story/352601.html |

Sproulman...
Stepped out for a while and had figured this the old Cat thread, but muddled through the first couple of pages and realized you're still beating the Cougar Drum with deafening earnest, despite being lead to water once already....... Couldn't suffer reading the whole thing and was hoping someone would have beat some sense into you by now....but fast forwarding to here proves naught. There's no Cats dude, never was, and never will be, despite all the proof of Owls, Coyotes, Bobcatsand Bears that you have. You need to go see the Doc, and remedicate............ |

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
they have always had cougars in West Virginia so i dont see whys they wont have them in the hills in Pennsylvania. My uncle has a taned cougar hide off one that he killed about 30 years ago. I had one get in a number two coiled spring trap that i had set for fox about ten years back and it looked like awhole heeard ofwhistle pigs had been diging there before he pulled out. But that was about a mile walk infrom the nearist loggin road.

But that was about a mile walk infrom the nearist loggin road. CONFIRMED tracks were found in hammersly fork,pa.dutlinger wildlife area in 2005. pictures were taken and confirmed to be cougar. at this time numerous camp owners heard the cougar. pa. state policeman was witness on screams and property owners found doe that had blood on back of its neck in hammersly fork creek about 1/2 mile from rt 144.doe ran into water to escape the cougar.pgc took the doe but did not investigate the incident. these homeowners lived their for over 40 years or moreand NEVER heard those screams beforein their life. does a cougar make screams like they said they heard,i believe so because the one i saw screamed at me and i was only 15 ft away. it sounds just llike the penn state lion you hear when you go to football games. i also talked to a few out of area fisherman who also said they heard those screams in summer fishing HAMMERSLY FORK at night while they were walking back to their car which is about 2 or 3 mile walk back. they said those sounds sent shivers up their back. i asked a person like some of you that dont believe they are here and guess what they saidthose sounds area? HOOT OWL,dont laughed, thats what they say we are hearing.GOOD DAY! |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Hey Sproul....For all the talking that's been going on about screams, it seems evident that none of you have ever heard a Great Horned owl scream at night. The fellow who said it was a hoot owl was very close, if not correct. A Great Horned scream will put stuff up your back that will take Charmins to get off. The first time I ever heard one it made my hair stand straight up, gave me goose pimples and made my eyes water. Scared the living daylights out of me. I was about 12 yrs. old at the time. That's where your screaming at night is coming from.
|
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
No cats east of the Mississippi? That might come as a big surprise to folks in Florida[:-]
|
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Yep!
And Great Horned Owl tracks are very similar to Cougar tracks . No doubt about it. It had to be an owl . |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Got pics of the tracks to share?

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
You guys who don't think their are cougers in the northeast are right out of your minds!! It's not Sproul..
I gotta little evidence to share with you. Just the other night I was walking home thru the woods and I heard something!! It wasn't a scream but it sounded more like " Heavens to Murgatroyd" yelled over and over again.I also heard what sounded like stage left. I got a report the next day that Snagglepuss had been seen. |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
only thing is when you have a homeowner in hammersly fork who lived there for over 50 years, hears a strange scream from behind his house, doe runs down and dies in creek with blood on back of its neck area, that is something that is not NORMAL.
then other camp owners hear screams . they also have not heard those before. not saying OWL is not doing it BUT if a sound is DIFFERENT from anything these people have heard from 12 yrs old to 60 years old,you have to wonder. |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
And the Drum Beat carries on...............

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
The owl that gets accused most often of being a cougar is the screech owl. More than once I've seen people go nuts after hearing a screech owl swearing it must be a mountain lion. It's really fun when one starts calling when you're among a bunch of cub scouts and their parents on a camping trip! They get pretty embarassed when you explain that a really big screech owl stands about 8 inches tall.

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
On page 8 of this booklet from a Quebec national park talks about cougars being sighted. Quebec can surely be considered EAST of the mississippi.

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Twenty years ago, cougars were pretty much unheard of outside of the western states. They have since been confirmed in Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois. I guess if this thread goes for another 20 years, then its title may cease to be in dispute.

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Don't worry - it will still be here.:D

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE

ORIGINAL: lost horn If they are here they won't stay very long, not enough deer to keep them happy.:D i saw very few fawns this year and ones i did see, some were killed by coyotes and bear here in pa. WMU2G. its hard for fawn to make it ,just to many predators for number of fawns born.hunters now shooting fawns also. i saw 2 fawns killed at alvin bush dam during one of our bass tournaments. i wish i had gun at time ,it was awful thing to watch. this was on or about june 15th. |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
finally something is coming out on cougar on i-80.
PGC says they did not investigate it because the state police said they found DOG and took it. after contacting state police their comment was ALL I CAN SAY IT WAS DOG. no other comment on WHO in state police removed it and what was done with it. 4 other people saw animal laying along road but they said it was 2 miles from area that dog was picked up. PGC says they DID NOT investigate it. i never in my life saw a trooper stop and pick -up dead animal from roads.usually they call PEN-DOT and have them pick it up. |

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Paranoid ey?
PROVING there are wild cougars or panthers, or any other "out of place critter", in an area where they have never been, or haven't been for a very long time.... WILL..... ......cause the enviromental wackos and tree huggers to go into litigation overdrive at the State and Federal level in an effort to "preserve" cougar habitat, panther habitat, ect....and shut down OUR way of life. Trust me, the State Fish& Game agencies know exactly what could happen, and thatIS the reason why they refuse to try and prove anything. It happened already in the PacificNorth West years agowhen the enviros shut down the logging industries life bloodin most of the region, when the poor little Spotted Owl species was "discovered" living in ONLY the old growth trees that the loggers were cutting down. They said the Spotted Owl could ONLY live in those trees and the Courts fell for it. Put thousands of timber/lumber workers out of work, as well as many other reprocussions that were felt nation wide. This effort was accomplished AFTER thetree spiking incidents that took placedidn't stop the whole operation. It happens everyday when a "wetland" is determined to habitat a critter of some rare sort.... The proposed construction of the bridge to Canada in Buffalo NYthat's being held up as we speak due to what might happen tosome stupid bird and some stupid fish is a perfect example of the headache caused by enviro's...... Pretty simple to do the math and KNOW what would happen to our region should a breeding population of Cats be "discovered".... Hanging pics and jaw jacking on a web site about such only serves to draw attention to the "problem". Nuthin' wrong with knowing you might "saw" one, or knowing a buddie might "saw" one....but it's in our best interest as Sportsmen to not try to prove a damned thing and just let sleeping Cats lie............... The enviro's are a formidable force and helping them hurt us is just plain stupid. Here's a link to a pretty good read about what happens when you let the enviro's get crazy with the courts. I remember this happening, which shows my age.....you not remembering it, shows yours. http://www.scu.edu/ethics/publications/iie/v4n1/homepage.html |
