RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
[blockquote]quote: ORIGINAL: Phil from Maine [blockquote]quote: Several friends that have hunted MA and Maine in areas that cougars are claimed..yep. No sign. [/blockquote] Ilive, hunt, and fish up here, and yes, I can tell you they do exist in Maine. I took 3 photos of cougar trackson my cell phone with a dollar bill beside them. I showed them to my co-workers and a few others before deleting them, they could see them really well. It was from a female with a cub last fall archery hunting. They ran across the road in front of myself and a friend on a dirt road about 20 miles from the nearest town. Why didI delete them from my cell phone? Simply put my job depends on woodcutters cutting wood, I enjoy my right to hunt and fish without the good ol gov. telling where I can and cannot hunt. It would change the way of life for to many of us to even think about giving info like this up to them. [/blockquote] OK...but I till say 99.9% of these sightings are bogus. I love the stories...but still no proof... All respect due phil...I still don't understand why you would delete them. Is the Gov going to confiscate your phone?? |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
You could not legally shoot a cougar in PA even if you saw one and wanted to. The reason is because they are not included on the non-protected list of animals in PA. But here is the dilema. If the PGC says they do not exist, as they have been documented as stating and you did shoot one - how could you be fined for shooting an animal that doesn't exist?????????????????????

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
if PHIL said he saw cougar and kitten,HE DID.if PHIL said he took pictures,HE DID.
this person is HONORABLE man, i would trust his word. but BELIEVE what you want. now on too more FACTS. ole sproul could be WRONG on thinking that cougars are MIGRATING to pa.. i am nowgetting a little more educated on cougar. i feel now that maybe most of cougars were always here, just my feeling.some migrate. wild breeding cougar. now, on with some FACTS.. did we all know that there has been multiple sighting AND CONFIRMED tracks thru snow/dirt between TAMARACK/CROSSFORK AREA in the DUTLINGER WIDLIFE NATURAL AREA. THIS WAS IN march of 2005. tracks were CONFIRMED as cougar by WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST DR.JACK BARR.. this person is renowned in his research and ability on cougars. also wildlife biologist/antropologist R.PENNINGTON also has CONFIRMED TRACKS in same area. THIS AREA IS ON KETTLE CREEK AREA. it covers about 15 miles from tamarack/crossforks. this area and the rt 144 area is one of the most ISOLATED areas in western clinton county. hammersly fork area is real wild and i believe is now classed as a WILD AREA. thats some more info, more CONFIRMED cougar tracks . carry your cameras folks, its going to be fun. also, dont shoot a cougar,i hear many that say they will blast one ,use camera, get pictures of tracks or cougar. boy, it was cold out coyote hunting today, did not see or hear any and only 1 deer in the sugar camp run area of clinton county. |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
bronko, from what i hear they got rules changed.
now, if you shoot a TAME cougar, its the same as shooting a wild one. or a RELEASED COUGAR. that may be why they are using the RELEASED COUGAR thing now more than the old lie they used,THEY DONT EXIST. they dont want one shot to be CONFIRMED and i dont want any shot,WILD OR TAME .. |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
No one is claiming Phil is a liar. Maybe he saw one. But I still beleibe 99.9% of these sightings are BS. Hell, even if PGC admitted they had breedingcougars, I wouldn't beleive most of these claims.

Cougars have been seen and stalked by police officers, photo'd and pursued in the area where I live nd it is not as wild and remote as where my cabin is located near Sproul S.F. I dont see why they would not be in that area..

steve, yes.
look at site i posted. there is a john there you can e-mail with your question or better yet, give him call. also they have free info which could answer your questions and mailed to your home. they do ask for a little donation to cover the postage etc,if you feel you would like too. a friend of mine that lived at the site,HAMMERSLY FORK,PA. he just passed away.i miss him a lot. 2 years ago he said he heard the most awful sounds from hillsideon summer nightand he feels it was cougar . he lived there all he life, hunts and sees bobcats all time. he said that sound was not normal. he also said something chased a doe that night and doe died in stream. the pgc came and got doe. he feels a COUGAR was chasing the doe. i never said a COUGAR had 2 heads or came from mars..:D |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
The leader of that site used to post here - until they could not stand being challanged on the FACT nothing one their site qualified as proof! I spent 2 hours on that site of speculation less then a year ago. In 2 hours of reading, I saw not 1 bit of proof. Just more of the same kind of reports and rumors posted on every thread about cougars/panthers/big foot. "So and so saw blank, and I know its true cause they are a praying peacher hunter. "
If I sent them a donation, it would be so they could afford to get back on the meds they are clearly not taking as directed. Steve |

I am an avid hunter and livejust southof the Albany area. I, myself have never observed a "big" cat but I do putalot of faith into theidea that they have been in this area. My father and I run coonhounds and venture into some remote areas and many farmers recently have without a doubt said they have seen these cats once or twice. One reputable-well respected farmer in schoharie county saw a cougar back in 1986 on his farm. I work in albany county and almost a dozen idividuals..mostly teachers that I work withhave seen cougars. this area of the Alcove watershed and big quarry areas of Albany countyhave been said to be holding these cats. One teacher had a mountain lion on her picnic table two years ago during the summer. Another teacher had her horse attacked and DEC played stupid. she is very adimit about that. Some local police officers have seen these cats in the Burne/westerlo/Albany county areas. Sitings have definitelyincreased in the last 10 years in Albany county. What i found ironic was many of the cats that have been spotted carried collars around there necks.

i had 8 owls in my area 3 weeks ago MATING for 2 days..
it drove me and dog NUTS. my dog barked until 2 am. owls in my yard killed 7 of my rabbits. they killed all of our pheasants i had for youth kids to hunt, everyone of them. i hate OWLS,HAWKS,FOX,COYOTES... |

tmeservey, dont let steve in ny get to you,he feels as his does and no one will change his comments..
if i was in woods A LOT like me, and did not see one myself, i only saw 1 in 50 years in woods,i would kind of feel that cougaris not here.. but when SPROUL tells you he saw one 15 ft ,yes 15 ft from me with witness, you can take that to bank. i was out today trying to get those 2 coyotes i missed,i thought my hunting was over, i thought i had a heart attack. i guess i need to only go out 2 times a week in this cold air,not 5. i am getting camera that you can put pictures on here, i hope to have some pictures of things in future.. maybe someone on here can steer me when that comes on how you download it to huntingpa site etc. i am not very good at typing. |

RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Welcome to Sprouls fairy tale forest.....
This forest is really special. It's full of cougars, bears that eat pine trees, and, of course, insurancecompany stocked coyotes. Theres also plenty of big "crews" of hunters who leave the deer rich areas of the state anddrive hundreds of miles to stomp out the woods and shoot the very last deer that remain in 2G. No deer left though. Be careful not to let your rabbits out in the yard, those horny owls will get em for sure. Don't bring your kids though, they're not welcome in Sprouls fairy tale forest because dad will use the kids tag to take one of those little bucks that are almost all gone anyway. Be sure to sign up for the big cougar spotting contest. Be the 1401st person to see a cougar in PA and win big! Proof is not required! we'll take your word for it! After all, in Sprouls fairy tale forest, anything is possible...even the tallest of tales! |

Same old same old... no evidence, no proof just morebs. I put such claims in the same category with, to name just a few,big foot, space aliens, the Evis is alive phenomenonand the nonsense that we never landed on the moon. Should reliable sources begin substantiating the presence of ml's in places like PA, NY etc. then the ml enthusiasts would have some credibility. Clearly, that's not the case. Until then, imo, it's just cases of mistaken identity, conspiracy theoriesand the imaginations of those who for whatever reason want to believe and are obsessed with convincing others to believe that ml's are around.

many have camps here and have PM me ,some said they also have info but are afraid to put in on here as some of you will make fun of them, thats sad, isnt it. It just means they have no PROOF. Coffe shop/bar room rumors of sitings are not proof. They are urban legends that grow uncontrolled when fed byrumor - the very reason for Snopes. Post proof and get some credibility - until then you get sad shakes of the head from your attempts to perpetuate myth and legend. Steve |

So now it's PM's from unnamed posters afraid to post their sighting here for fear of ridicule. Just like your cougar sightings, once again you don't produce any proof whatsoever. You have made so many outlandish claims about so many things that you've gotten to the point where very few, if any, believe anything you post. It's not just the cougar stories, it's the poaching stories, the tree eating bears and countless others. Never a picture. Never a link to any credible source that supports what you claim. When you do occasionally post a link like the one in this thread, it's about sightings over 750 miles from the closest PA border and you expect us to accept it as proof that cougars are here. Save your stories for someone still young and naive enough to swallow them. Of course, today, even kids are pretty sharp at spotting BS so you'd better stick to the local kindergaten. |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
watching tv right nowand history channel is having info on COUGARS .
they have possiblepictures of black puma in west virginia on camcorder.research said it was 27 inchs from nose to hind quarter. and clear shots of LONG tail. farmer said he was going to shoot it,GAME COMMISSION told him they dont exist and you better not shoot it or you will be arrested.:D check, it may be playing in your area. www.history.com |

I watched it Sproulman and I didn't hear anyone say anything about you better no shoot one. Most of the programwent on and on about how there's no such thing as a black mountaibn lion. The cat in in west virginia was estimated at 25 inches long.Pretty small don't you think?
How anyone could have watched that and came away believing we have large black cats roaming around is beyond me. |

my Welsh Corgi is 26 inches long.
now he has half an attitude because i told him he was "cougar- sized" POW! |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
my black lab from his nose to his rear is 31 inchs long.
he weights 81 pds.;) i think they said that HOUSECAT is around 15 inchs:eek:,maybe douge can correct me on that ,if i am wrong on what they said. |
RE: COUGARS ARE HERE
Sproulman, the only trail cam pictures I saw were from arizona where they were trying to het a picture of a jaquar and ended up gettong a mountain lion and some bears.
They may have said that an average house cat is only 15 inches long but we have one that's well over 20 inches.Twentyfive inches is much closer to the size of a house cat than a large mountain lion or black jaguar. Once again, the evidence they showed, overwhelmingly laid to rest the ridiculous claims of all theblack mountain lion sightings. |
